I have been fighting the urge of voiding my warranty on my Benchmade knives for awhile now, but am ready to make the plunge. I've read in multiple posts how people suggest using loctite on the threads of the screws when reassembling the knife. Is this true and where can I find this stuff? Also, if there are different kinds of it, what kind do I want for what I'm doing with it? Any help on these issues or suggestions about taking these knives apart would be greatly appreciated! By the way, if it's relavent, the first knife I'll be taking apart is one of my AFCK's, because it is in need of a serious cleaning...

Thanks...Jeff

P.S. / I apologize if this is the incorrect place for this post. I wasn't sure where to put it...

You can probably find small tubes of either Loctite or generic thread locking compound in your local hardware or home supply type lumber yard. This is probably your best bet sice a little goes a long way. Loctite makes an incredible range of locking compounds, etc. If you wanted one of the specialized compounds (higher strength, etc.), they are described on their site, along with distributor information. Most industrial supply houses carry at least some of their products. The sight is:

Hope this helps.

I use the "blue" loctite when mounting scopes. It will keep the screws from backing out, but you can still remove the screws later on if desired. Be careful and read the package, as some formulas of loctite are designed to lock the screw in permently.

If you can't find it in the hardware store, try an automotive parts house.

It wouldn`t hurt to heat the screws. You don`t know what Les did,and he won`t tell you. He`s weird that way.

I have an AFCK and I had a heck of a time with the screws on the clip backing out on me. I had to tighten the screws twice a week!!! I e-mailed Benchmade and they told me to use blue locktite and it has been over a month with no loosening whatsoever!! Great stuff that locktite! I found it at a local gun shop. I hope that helps.

Thanks again to everyone for all of the help. I am now in search of blue loctite
