Now that I have had a look at the screws in the CQC-8 I have this overwhelming urge to loctite everything (except for the pivot screw of course). Thoughts? Its probably a bad idea huh? lol

Honestly Blue Loctite is easy broken free, I personally do not use it, as I am anal about daily look see inspection about everything I take off the dresser in the a.m. Before I load up my pocket for a day of retirement.

Blue Loctite is perfectly fine for all of the screws. Remember just a tiny drop. Honestly I have about 12 Emersons over the past 5 years and I've never had to tighten any body screws but whatever floats your boat.

Tip: You can also get away with using nail polish in a pinch. Works just as well as the lesser strength of the Blue Loctite.

I haven't used it either. There's never been a need for it on any of my Emersons. They've all stayed tight. Most have never been disassembled and continue to work just fine. I did D/A my mini-15 after about a year. Cleaned it up, put it back together, and it's stayed just where I put it. It gets carried most of the time, so if it was going to loosen up, I think it would have done it by now.

I've had to Loctite other brands of knives, but never an Emerson. The pivot always stays put where I want it.

I used blue loctite on the first couple of Emeresons I had because I was afraid the screws might loosen up. I even put a drop on the pivot screws because they were moving a bit with use. I've quit using loctite as I haven't had any loosening problems. I now use teflon tape on the pivot screw as I hate having the pivot screw move while opening and closing, and I don't have to wait for it to dry when I get a new Emerson and I want to play with it immediately.

I think that you've got it backwards. The Pivot is the only screw that should be loctited. The body screws are soft and will hold themselves in just fine.

Loctite sometimes is more permanent than you want it to be when used on small screws with tight thread patterns.

Yes, blue 242 Loctite will keep screws in place, but still allow easy removal with just hand tools. I use it on on all screws on my rifle scopes (rail screws, ring base screws, ring top halves) and can always get them off easily.

By all means, do not use Red Loctite, or you will have a real bear of a time getting the screws loosened with hand tools.

I've used the Blue on an Axis lock knife that kept getting loose after 5-8 openings. Kept it right in place. Even after I took the knife apart then put it back together I didn't need to reapply the Loctite, what was left on still worked fine.

I have had to Loctite a few pivot screws that kept working loose. A small drop of blue and they stayed in place but weren't so tight that I couldn't still adjust or remove if needed. This was done on a few Emersons along with other brands of knives. Never had a problem with body screws on any knife I have owned.

I have never needed Loctite on an Emerson. Everything stays put by itself.

I just used the purple from CRK on my new 15 pivot as it was suffering from very late lockup. I need the pivot to stay right where it is to keep from sending it back to EKI, which is the last resort if this fails. It only gets bad if I wave it, but that is one of the main features of an EKI knife.

After it's fully broken in I probably won't have to use it anymore, instead do the occasional fingernail tighten like my other Emersons to keep the blade centered.

But I don't have a problem with Locktite, as it is a tool just like the knife itself. I use it on certain bolts on my motorcycle all the time.

I now use the purple, #222 a tad weaker than blue, but it's still good enough and easier to break.
It's not like we are applying nuts to heavy vibrating machinery, which is what the blue and red were designed for.

I have used the blue on the pivot of every Emerson & Strider I own (I have had both loosen up without it), works perfectly for me.
