What kind of loctite, or color, is best for using on the screws for folders ? Specifically, Strider SnG.

Get blue loctite. It is able to be removed by hand tools, but will still hold your screws to the desired tightness.

I don't know if Strider recommends a specific type, but for general use the blue loctite works well. It is medium strength, meaning that it's strong enough to hold screws in place, but still allows them to be removed at a later date, though this might require the application of a bit of heat from a soldering iron.

Actually thats the main reason to use blue loctite...no heat is required. Red loctite requires heat to remove.

For the record......

Types of Loctite

White with teflon....used for plumbing and low
torque (& small screw) breakloose. Good anti vibe
on fasteners when dry to hold input torque if dis-
assembly is anticipated.

Green....used to "wick" into existing fasteners.
Low / medium torque breakloose.

Blue...semi permanent higher torque breakloose.

Red... Hi torque breakloose permanent hold on
fastners. Not recommneded for very small fasteners
or small screws.

I'm actually a fan of using the green before I assemble {in direct opposition to the instructions}.

I just put a tiny drop on the screw and it bleeds into all of the threads, then use a napkin to wick away a little of the excess so that there is just a light coating of the loctite left on the screw and put it in.

I have found that by doing it this way there is absolutely no seepage from the screw which could risk getting into the pivot area. It's also a much cleaner application IMO.

The down side is that it does take a little heat to break it loose but once the pivot is set to my tension I'm happy. Works great on Bali's :)
