When I finish a block of nightshifts my body clock is sometimes messed up, this was the case today so unable to sleep I found myself at the trail head parking lot just before 08:00.

Pretty dark still as I set off~

This trail is so steep that you soon become rewarded with views~

I'm blowing like a steam train and Snicker keeps running back down like it's nothing !!!

Aaarrggghhh....another steep section, I'm getting too old for this !

Reached another vantage point~

On the drive here the weather man on the radio said it was one degree, as I climbed higher it felt much colder than that. There was plenty of ice which Maisy loves to break up !

More views~

More ice~

In warmer weather Maisy likes to swim in this pool at the top but today she could only look at the ice !

My kit today was pretty minimal, my knife, my neck knife kit, my Wind shirt, gloves and my thermos of tea !

I soon pulled my windshirt on under my wool shirt, this makes a huge difference. I was also wearing my new Kuhl pants, these are great if you are looking for some rugged outdoor pants~

A couple more view pics~

Sad but I think I get as much kick out of breaking ice as your pooch.:D

Nice minimal gear selection. You're definitely NOT the guy Jackknife is talking about in the other thread. ;) I need to look into re-tooling my clothes for winter. Right now I'm primarily setup for fair weather hikes. You wearing long johns or no?

No long johns today, I was just right temperature wise for the hike but it was too cold to sit around much at the top.

Cool. :D I should actually get some dedicated out door pants as opposed to the 3-4 raggedy assed oldies I have for that.

I only got them cos they were in the sales......I'm usually like you and wear the same old ones till they fall apart !

That first pic looks like the jungle.

Great pics as usual, I know all about the cold weather everything is frozen here now (which is about a month late) and will stay that way for another 2 months. At least I can finally get out on the lake for some ice fishing and skating.

Always enjoy your pics, thanks for sharing them! I love your part of the world, hope to get back to BC before too long...

I love the cold weather, and I love the ice breaking that comes with it. ;)

Used to be one of my favorite things to do when I was younger, break ice.

awesome views! i'd like to go there and watch the sun set & rise for a few days.

This is my kind of trail.

It looks like a rock scramble, but IMHO pictures never accurately convey just how steep a trail really is. So I'm wondering, is that big root in the middle something you use to claw your way up, or do you just walk up?

Pitdog, I have said it before and I am going to say it again, Man you live a great place for hiking. I love the landscape of your pics.
Thanks for posting them.

That particular section is just about walkable, when it is very icy/snowy it is a nightmare though !

Some other small sections require some scrambling.

I don't hang around this forum enough. Been missing out on your great threads and pics bro!

Pit great photos and write up.

Did you carry your thermos bandolier style? I can't tell from the photo but I see some rope and a carabiner in the photo.

Nah just attached it via a carabiner to one of my belt loops.

Nice pics....looks cold. I hear you on the night shifts I am on my 3rd night outa 4 this week and I find myself out near the streams after work. Its nice though, middle of the week the woods and streams are usually without people round here.
