Can someone tell us why we have to log in first now, just to read the threads ? thanks Jack

Some forums are going to be set up like that from now on. I want more people taking part in discussions and not just getting info and leaving.

I can appreciate you opinion on this. It can be a lost to the forum if people just read and do not add to the discussion.
But, and as a friend of mine always says... there is always a but...

I remember when I first heard of this forum. It was acutally in Blade Mag Ed Fowler talked about it,, So I visited this forum. I didn't comment for the first few days, I just read and listened to what the other knife nuts where talking about, I was seeing if I was interested in this forum.

by making people register their name etc and then log in before they can read the forum and see if they want to join, you can be eliminating some new folks from joining.

Also, sometimes I just want a quick read, I'm here at work and I just want to see whats going on, I dont have time to comment, type a response or a new thread.
I got a feeling that there are a few formites like me, who read inbetween doing thier work. You make me take more time to log in first.
Granted it really isnt a lot of time. But like today ....I had to log in several times cause I am in and out of the forum , just depends on what I gotta do here at work,
I dont know if its a big deal or not. and I can understand that the more people who discuss on the forum the better the forum. So I do see you point. But I am also a user and see a bit of the other side.
Whatever you do I'm still a member, and going to be. I am a nut and this is a really good forum. I have learned a lot and enjoyed it. So thanks and good knife hunting
Jack

My guess is that it will also save bandwidth. I've seen well over 100 "guests" in the Blade Discussion Forum late at night. Most likey it's robots like Google but also spammers' bots looking for email addresses. Some can get out of control when not configured properly and really end up sucking bandwidth.

I don't mind logging in. I use random passwords for everything and store them in an encrypted database. I just have to click a few things to copy and paste.
