They'd sure be spectacular if they were Dui Chirra, wouldn't they? I'd stay away from bone handles though, opting for either horn, wood, or something exotic like oosic or mastadon ivory... Have Terry Sisco make a quick draw scabbard for the khukuri too!

Dan :)

I would buy one of these in a heartbeat even with a bone handle.
As a weapon only, it only has to work once, right ?
Truly, with some gracefull fullers and a nice sheath, this would be a dreamy khukuri and a must-have.

This was tried once. The result was a khukuri that fits Conan. I have one; they were called the Super Salyan and some were 7/8" thick IIRC.
I'm not sure of the length but I think they were around 20 inches. Mine is in my work room with a very rough handle and unused because I have never finished it after taking quite a lot of material off the overly large handle.
There are better large khuks like the GRS and the 20"-25" AK. Everyone agrees that one the proper size would be wonderful but it won't ever happen.

that is a damn shame.
lets not give up hope though.
if they can do what they do as well as they do, then maybe they can do this just as well...

:D :D That's funny, even though you're out the $ it took to realise the project. Who knows what was going on in the kamis' heads that particular day. Maybe they assumed that Conan himself would be wielding the khukuri they made. Arnold Schwarzenegger would even get a workout with a 20" knife with a 7/8" spine...

Dan :D

DannyinJapan... I'd use it as a martial arts weapon myself; with anything but a bone handle, I know it would withstand extra hard use, if it was made to perform in extreme conditions. The lines on the Saylan are beautiful. Also, look at that cho...

Yvsa,
I am not Conan by any means, but you just described a dream Khukuri for me. Part hand ax, part home project, part weight lifting/fittness tool:D . It sounds like a tool I wish I had been around to find. I have this odd love for large heavy khuks. It is facinating to me how much you can do with them, with the proper control and effort that is.;) Plus no danger of breaking the beasty! If I had hung around a just little earlier. HeHe

Yep. That was the Salyan - I tried to ressurect the idea a year or two ago, to no avail. The interest wasn't there.

Maybe it's time for another attempt?

But this time we'll send a wood model...;)

I got to handle this exact khukuri as well as the new salyan - side by side. They are very similar. Two things stuck out, though....Bill's old salyan is thicker....and the blade is wider....but I like the new one more...the quality is just great.

(note to others reading this thread - check the date)

Now you know how long I have wanted one just like the one you sharked, Satori!
Never you mind!
I got the 15" chandan version right next to it.
For some reason, despite the similar size, mine is apparently a touch lighter.
We shall have to investigate!
