Hello, I am totally new to this. I am interested in learning what is the best way to put logos on knife blades. I almost bought a láser engraver but stopped short thinking that may not be the right choice. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciate. Thanks

Most logos are done one of two ways:
1) Electro-Etching. It is done with a machine like the Personalizer-Plus, a stencil, and an electrolyte. This has been the most popular method for many years.
2) Laser Engraving - This is the newer method and gaining in popularity. It is far more expensive to get a suitable laser for engraving metal, but much more versatile.

Be careful getting a laser. Make sure to do research so you get one that is actually capable of engraving steel. Most of the really cheap ones out there are not capable of it.

Electro-etching is a much cheaper alternative that does a very nice job. It's just more tedious.

If you are forging then a hot stamp is another option that some use.

the digital age brings with it the wondrous opportunity of placing a touch mark anywhere you want it and in any size, and on nearly any material. I've been able to avoid the expense by leaning on a friend who has a machine that can do the job- it's the only aspect of my process that I outsource- but I realize there will be a time in the near future when I'll have to buck up and buy my own. Fortunately, like most technology, the machines keep getting smaller and cheaper year after year.
Check out Andreas Kalani's work, he makes extensive use of the laser for embellishment

I use electro-etch and am moving towards lasers more. I have a 40w diode model that I purchased for other things, but marks well on CPM3v and Magnacut which is all that I have tested so far. The "best" option for metal engraving via laser is a fiber laser, but it's a bit of an investment.

Chisel :P laser engraving makes it look like it was made on a CNC machine
So consider how the choice interacts with the rest of the aesthetic of the knife. A medieval replica with laser or electro-etch is going to look strange

How many do you need to do?

You can get a perfect laser etch by going to the trophy engraving shops that are well equipped.
The fee for one or a few is quite reasonable
