Santa apparently decided to ignore the fact that I have been pretty bad this year,:o because there's a spectacular new khukuri under the tree. This is by Lokendra kami and the new sarki, neither of whose products I had had the privilege of handling before. Both are impressive, and it looks to me like we are really seeing some fine new work coming out of BirGorkha. BTW, it's the sharpest HI khukuri I have ever received.
The label says it's an 18" HATTI AK. My Basic Course in Nepali book says elephant is haathi, but I suspect this is one of those kothimora/kothimoda deals where the only "right" way is to" write" it in Devanagari. Whatever the spelling, I'm plenty happy to have found this elephant under my Christmas tree!:D

The decorations make it a very special treasure of a design. What took my attention was what looks to be some of the finest fuller work I've seen since Bura was putting hammer to steel.

That was my immediate reaction when I first saw the blade, and subsequent comparison with several fullered Buras reinforces that impression.
BTW, the weight is 20.6 ounces, which also shows that the man is an artist in steel as well as wood.

That is a beautiful blade Berk. The fullers really lighten the load. It is the same as the original Hanuman isn't it? If so, I can see why Uncle Bill wanted some with a WWII handle. That would've been a sweet khuk had the kamis understood what he wanted:).
