I simply cannot believe this...

The govrnment needs to send a strong message to people who carry weapons such as knives. Anybody cought in possession should automattically receive a 10-year prison sentance.[\quote]

Yeah, even if they never commit a crime.. good grief!

When will they learn that criminals could care less about possesion laws?

These attitudes are heading our way...

That's just disgusting especially the comments that people have posted in response to the article. If you read it leave a comment and tell them what you think about "all people with knives are criminals". Oh, wait, I see one person already has.

yeah, automattically get a 10 year prison sentence.. no trial even???

People trying to make a name for themselves like this just anger me.

The UK is, according to some friends who go there frequently, becomming even more tyranical than the USA these days. I'm sure everyone here will agree with me when I say that it should be manditory for every citizen of this country above the age of 7 to carry a fixed blade at all times when in public. Knives are symbolic of our humanity because, while other animals use tools, we are the only animal that fashions them. The knife is the simplest tool that must be fashioned and therefore is unique to humans. When you think about it, nearly every other animal has a knife built in (wasn't that the slogan of Spyderco a while ago?) but we lost ours for the ability to make them ourselves. To outlaw knives is to outlaw the reduce us lower than other animals. It is going against three billion years of evolution.
However, being another country, we can do nothing but watch (or could we invade them for crimes against humanity? I shouldn't give them any ideas). Who knows what will become of the world or even just our country in the future.

I just posted what I thought was a relatively level-headed response but got an auto-reply that my post was subject to editing by the BBC and may or may not be displayed...... :grumpy: By the way, it was a major PITA trying to type in that submission box and only being able to see like 5 words at a time

The way that article portrays all knife-carriers as criminals and knives are evil is british insanity at its highest level. Almost similar to the crazed mad people who want to ban all guns and criminalize all gun-carriers.

Britain needs an NRA to fight for the rights of all people to carry the means to defend themselves and their families from crime.

The british police have been unable to stop the massive increase in crime due to their illogical, liberal-socialist attitude to crime, and now they want to blame innocent knife-carriers, and innocent pieces of metal for their incompetence.

Sack all the high-ranking policemen and bring in better ones.

Execute those idiot teens who go around stabbing kids. Punish the offender, not innocents. Criminalizing innocent knife-carriers and demonizing simple tools is leftist thinking at its most absurd.

I'm sorry, but the socialist paradise of britain stinks to high heaven with its newest round of complete absurdity.

It shows nothing but a complete disrespect for the rights of other people to defend themselves and a complete lack of compassion and love for one's fellow man.

good points.

A knife possesion law is a useless deterrent, however prosecuting someone and putting them away for a long time for assault or murder charges is a much better deterrent. The latter must happen 90% of the time for it to be effective though...

I wouldn't say mandatory. I would say that it is a civil right with accompanying responsiblity, and subject to be revoked if an individual is unwilling to accept that responsibility.

One easy example is don't get drunk/high and carry big knives.

Yeap , that is beyond ridiculous. While I am not trying to inspire others to do like myself , I carry what I want when I want , barring Air travel. When I went to Tulsa last spring I UPS'd a folder to my best bud who kept it for me till I got there. I am a tax paying , voting , loyal hardworking American. No government or LE officer is going to tell me what I can own and not own or carry and not carry. Simple.
