London Police Plan to Use Airport-style Scanners on London Streets

I was planning on taking the wife to London this year, changed my mind.

London police plan to use airport-style scanners on London streets

That is nice, now the muggers can be sure their victims are unarmed.

They use them hear all the time in Glasgow.
They are just looking for gangs and youths etc carrying knifes someone minding there own buisness with there wife has zero chance of getting pulled.

They should add retinal scans, fingerprinting, DNA sampling and tracking chip implantation to the arches while they are at it... at least that would let them keep pace with the insane number of public surveillance cameras. The last time I was in London for work I was astounded by how much public surveillance there was -- downright Orwellian.

If I remember right, there was recently an admission by London Police that the cameras haven't done their job. They've only solved 3% of the crimes, with the help of the cameras.

There's also calls to ban kitchen type knives also.

I can't see living there. disgusting.

Whatever happened to civil rights?
Unfortunately, the British people have none. They are subjects of the queen, nothing more. They have no Constitutional rights against illegal search and seizure because there is no such thing as an illegal police search over there. Their so-called legal system is so twisted that you can be arrested, convicted and jailed for defending your family against an armed home invasion if you manage to injure or kill the invaders. Absolute insanity! All Americans should avoid the UK like the plague and tell the travel agencies why. The late Col. Jeff Cooper really got it right when he commented that an armed individual is a citizen but an unarmed individual is a subject. The man certainly knew what he was talking about.

Once the balance of security versus liberty tips all the way over to security within a society, the people are neither secure nor free. Living in Kalifornia I see this balance tip farther and farther in the wrong direction as well.

This is the edge of a slippery slope. How long will it be before metal detectors become standard at the entrances to shopping malls, and other public places? Then how long will it be before these policies spread from country to country and finally overseas to our shore like a disease. Well actually this is a political disease of sorts.

Don't forget the 48 days arrest and detain WITHOUT charge.

Animals have more rights than people in the UK and they are not the victims of extortion (taxes)!

Now, where's my dog costume...?

Because teenage punks in the U.K. aren't smart enough to figure out that a sharpened piece of wood or plastic could kill a person just as easily as a knife. But apparently your politicians don't get it either.

It's sad. How far will your authorities go? Will they start randomly stopping and searching every "suspicious" looking young man in the street?

I believe England has the largest concentration in the World at the present time. They are less than helpful in general terms at solving/preventing crime.

Soon to be over 90 if the government succeed in forcing it through Parliament.

Karl Marx proposed the elimination of "countries" and "boundaries". We see that mentality now in the UN, who seek to impose global laws regarding firearms and knives, as well as other civil liberties. And of course, our leading Marxists, Obama and Hillary, are all too willing to turn our Supreme Court and Congress over to the UN's control.

Glad that some of us are observing what's happening overseas, but more importantly, we must ensure that it cannot happen here. Your votes count.
