Hi everyone. I saw a picture of the Bob Loveless designed City knife produced by Lone Wolf knives. I like what I see, but I would love to hear from someone who has one. I haven't seen one in person yet so if anyone has I would like to hear you impressions as well. I'm trying to narrow my choices for a small bladed folder down a little. The City knife, Benchmite, one of Queen's slipjoints and a Kershaw Chive seem to be the front runners right now. If anyone has another suggestion I would love to hear it. I'm looking for something sheeple friendly while I'm going to college.

Howdy Easyrider, let's see what kind of help I can give... I have a chive (actually the wife has it now) and it is ok, but seems more of a novelty knife for me. The assisted opening is like crack cocaine it is soooo addictive. The steel is AUS-6 and there is a little bit of a recurve to it, which MAY make it tough to sharpen for some. However, the overall size is pretty tiny... think watch pocket.
The Benchmite... don't have one, never even saw one. Sorry, can't help ya there.
Queen's slipjoints... I prefer the D2 ones. They seem to have gotten their QC a lot better than the first run. I have 4 of them and like the jigged cherry delrin and the winterbottom delrin the best. You will probably have to do a little re-profiling with these, but they are pretty nice. I forgot to mention that all four are stockmans, the winterbottom being the Cattle King model... which is hands down my favorite. This knife just screams "USE ME"!!! And I have, and she has taken everything I threw at her.
The Loveless City Knife... a decent stainless steel, but the exact name escapes me for the moment, with nice green micarta handles. It has a very handy blade shape and excellent fit/finish and walk/talk. I personally thought it a little pricey, but hey... that's an individual thing anyway. I don't have one, but have seen and handled one. I would buy one if I could find it cheaper.

I guess my overall choice would be one of the D2 Queens... there are many to choose from, and they certainly look sheeple friendly. Good luck with school... where ya going?

Thank you gentlemen for the information and especially the links Tarsier. I don't understand what the author of the review meant by the protruding blade tang. Can anyone elaborate?

I want one, that's all I know. It just looks like a great everyday, go to work kinda knife to me.

The tang is the butt end of the blade. It is the part of the blade at the pivot end that swings around to engage the backspring (or in some folders, the stop pin).

Depending on a number of factors, primarily blade depth and how the pivot end of the scale is designed, the tang, which is typically ground off flat and sharp to cleanly engage the backspring, sticks up above the scale when closed. If you are fumbling around in your pocket, the sharp tang will bite you!

I don't have a handy illustration for you, but just find a picture of it closed, and you will see what I mean.

Thank you everyone for you input. The more I look for a small knife, the quicker that the list grows!

I just picked up a Queen Copperhead (carved stag bone) in D-2. The tang sticks up slightly above the bolster, just enough to bother me. Other than that, it's a very nice knife. Queen's QC has come a long way.

Pic of the knife closed shows the protruding tang.

I've had the knife for 1 1/2 years. Like it a lot. The "protruding" tang does not "bite" me in the least bit. The handle/blade ergonomics are great and show the genius of the Loveless mind. If the tang was covered, you'd loose some the ergonomics and have a lesser knife.
