Haven't seen a lot about this knife on the forums. Anyone have one? If so how do you like it? Looks like a REAL heavyduty folder especially with the walker/lake safety lock, too prevent any unlocking of the liner lock leaf.

Talk to me......... :D :) :D

The knife itself is real nice, good edge, good ergos and quality. The knife fits my hand very well, and I only have medium large hands. The Walker safety is nice, have had a simular one on the Gerber Applegate.

BUT.... make sure if your getting one the lock engages properly. Have handled two where it did not. Not sure if its due to the design or just the execution.

The latest Tactical Knives mag has a cover story on this knife. I have not read it as yet.

I just purchased one about 3 hours ago at the local knife show, it is very large, it really makes an impression. quality is above average for a production knife. Mine locks up nice and tight, came razor sharp out of the box. It is very stout and actually has a good feel in the hand. So far, I think it's worthy, cool factor is about a 7.5. IMO It's great for EDC, but would be ideal in some sort of "bug out bag" or simular set up. :)

That is what got me to wondering about this beast! The write seemed favorable but did not give a whole lot of information, nor did it show a lot of pics of the knife. Just got a Cutlery Shoppe catalog today that had this knife on the front cover..........so I just got to thinking that I had not seen much about it.

Thanks fellows!:D

Got a chance to handle a Lone Wolf Harsey folder at a local knife shop. It's huge!!! The one I saw was the original 5.9" long handle one. Looks like they have a smaller size now too. There is no reason for the pocket clip or even pretending you would carry the thing in a pocket. It is solid, and well balanced, with a good lockup on the liner. Did I mention it's big? Makes a Cold Steel Gunsite 5" seem slim. Even the width of the handle is big, which is good and fills the hand well. On the other hand, it's the width that's the problem in carrying a folder comfortably. But, if you really need a big, beefy folder with a handle wider/bigger than my Denning #6, go for it. By the way, the Micarta was fitted roughly and the extra lock for the liner lock was real tight. Put the knife in the $150 range and I think it's a winner.

Wish I had bought a Sifu when they were available. Anybody got a one-finger grove model they would part with??

Brad

I read somewhere that they changed the Harsey. The new version has no lawks and has frn handles.

Here is a pic. The pic was taken by a gentleman that goes by TTQUAD.

One more. A comparison shot with the Buck Strider.

TTQUAD has some awesome heavy duty knives.

I can't believe Lone Wolf switched the scales on the Harsey from Micarta to FRN! Has the MSRP gone down? It looks so CRKT-ish.

I'll try and find out for sure, but people on the other forum said they have ordered one thinking they were getting Micarta. That would lead me to believe the MSRP has stayed the same. I hope that isn't true though. It was also said that Lonewolf "switched to the nylon handles because the Micarta tended to absorb fluids (creating a potential bio hazard problem w/blood, etc), and was more stable over different operating conditions, etc..."

It looks like the website's been updated.

There are now two more versions, all three have "textured glass-filled Nylon® for its toughness and non-slip properties." No mention of a LAWKS.

Harsey Tactical Folder - original
Harsey Tactical Ranger - flat-ground drop point
Harsey T-2 Ranger - shorter blade

The elimination of the LAWKS was a good thing. I never liked the contraption on my Shrade folder--I was never sure when the safety was engaged or disengaged. The safety--especially when the lever loosened--intermittently affected the lock's operation. It wreaked havoc with my confidence in the knife.

I'm not convinced that the switch in scale material from micarta to frn was primarily for bio-hazard concerns. Granted, I'm not a bio-hazard expert to make any claims, however, it does seem odd to me as a layperson. There are many nooks and crannies all over the knife that could harbor unwelcome organisms so only changing the scale materials do not seem to be a solution to the problem. Besides I have some kitchen knifes with micarta handles. This leads me to think that it was probably a manufacture's material and/or crafting cost savings decision. I like micarta but perhaps real life trials have shown the frn to be a more suitable material for this particular knife and its intended uses.

I like Harsey's designs so it will be interesting to see how this model will evolve over time.

I am glad they are making a smaller one. I am limited to under 4" by law. I may have to check one out. I'll admit though for $240 I would prefer something besides FRN.

No more Micarta, but why FRN scales? Why not G-10?

I noticed that the price went up on the full sized models compared to the Micarta handled versions. An MSRP of $300 bucks for a production folder with FRN scales.

i had been thinking about one, i like big folders, but w/the cheapo handles, i think i'll pass at that price. maybe $150 or so....

might woulda gone for it w/the G10 handles, and really liked the micarta, but the FRN?? dont like it myself.

I like the smaller Ranger model. But its too bad they switched to molded plastic handles. I liked the shape and looks of the original micarta. The clip could be trimmed down some also. I would think that the move to molded scales would kill sales, so maybe they'll go back or to G-10.
