Hey, does any one know how thick the blade is on this knife? Just wondering and any thoughts on the quality and performance. Thanks. ;)

To start, you may want to go to "knife reviews and testing" and search for "lone wolf harsey". You should find several threads.

thanks for the suggestion, but I didn't find much. I am just wondering how it compares in blade size to a Buck/Strider or BM Skirmish? Blade thickness wise. I am looking at getting one at a great price, but don't know much about them. Thanks.

Can't tell ya' much on thickness....all I've heard pretty much amounts to "pretty damned thick"

As far as LW knives themselves, I've heard a few negative things about 'em, how they cheesed out by losing the LAWKS, and switching from Micarta to wonder plastic, and how they're not any better than the average Benchmades and such, but cost a heckuva lot more.

So, I had to find out for myself, by purchasing one of the T-2 Tactical Rangers with the wooden handles.

Cheesed out by losing the Lawks- I think it's likely. I've heard it said that losing the Lawks was to help cheapen production, and I've also heard it was a clunky PITA that didn't belong on the knife in any case.

Cheesed out by losing the micarta- yup...I agree. It was supposedly done to help reduce bacteria and so forth that could hide in the deep, dark recesses of your knifes grip. That being said, I've worked as an EMT myself, and I've known Medics that have worked everywhere from remote Alaskan villages to the slums and ghettos of Atlanta, and I have never met anyone that said "ewww...that filthy old micarta on my folding knife holds germs and cruddies! I wish it had plastic instead!" It all just seems a bit unlikely to me, so...hence the reason I think they cheesed out. That being said, I think that it's harmless, and neither handle material is likely to give anyone any troubles.

As far as them being overpriced, I disagree. Emerson, Microtech, MOD...there's alot of liner lock knives out there that cost more than a Benchmade you don't hear alot of complaining about.

My own Harsey is one of only two modern production folders I'm hanging onto these days. It has excellent fit, finish, attention to detail. It's smooth, sharp, and well designed. the flat ground blade cuts spectacularly, and the wooden handles add a touch of warmth and class that very few modern made folders seem to have these days. I don't think they're at all a bad deal if they fit your wants, needs, and lifestyle.

Sorry I didn't have any numbers or anything for ya, but...hope I gave you something worth while in all my mumbling and ranting... :D

I've had a bunch of them, from the early LAWKS equipped ones, to the non-LAWKS, Micarta-scaled ones, to my current one with nylon scales.

The blade is 5/32" thick, but is thinned out enough to take a good edge. Not scary sharp like my Spyderco Military, but at least shaving sharp.

I didn't much care for the LAWKS mechanism, it was placed in an awkward location, not as easy to use as some CRKTs. The Micarta scales didn't do it for me either, I like the clean look of the current nylon scales. Keep in mind that this is a BIG knife, nearly 10-3/4" long open. It is also pretty wide, so it doesn't carry as easily as a Camillus Maxx.

As for the quality, it seems to have slipped over time. Some of the early ones that I had were perfect in terms of fit and finish and function. Recently, I had 2 knives that had to go back to Lone Wolf, one was a non-LAWKS Micarta version and the other is my current Nylon scaled version. Both had the same problem, the blade rubbed the liner as the knife was closed. One also had a detent problem, the ball detent didn't hold the knife completely closed - when the detent engaged, the tip of the blade was still sticking up slightly. To Lone Wolf's credit, however, both knives were fixed to my satisfaction and returned to me quickly.

If you get a good deal on one and you can inspect it first, I'd say to go for it. Everything about the knife is overbuilt, the liners and pocket clip are about the thickest I've ever seen. If you have to purchase it sight unseen, you can be comforted by the fact that, in my experience, Lone Wolf stands by their product.

I believe they've dropped the LAWKS from current production Harsey Tacs....if you email them you can get a washer to replace it.
