In 2009 the Lone Wolf Blackfoot won a Bladeshow Award for Best Value Knife of the year. At the time the MSRP was under $100 with most stores selling it for around $75. A great value for a knife with g10 scales and s30v steel. In 2010 Lone Wolf raised the price and now the cheapest you can find it is for $120, yet they are still advertising the knife as being the Best Value Knife of the year. I guess it's technically true since the award was in 2009, but it still rubs me the wrong way that they did a huge price increase.

When I saw your title, I thought you might be questioning Lone Wolf's description of their knives as "semi-custom." I like their knives, but from what I can tell that description seems questionable in its accuracy.

I'm not sure what you are describing is false advertising. The prices on knives and the variances from MSRP seem to go up and down in response to market demand. Lone Wolf knives in general are typically overpriced relative to the competition but they use a lot of hardwood handles, have good and sometimes unique designs, and can be hard to find.

I just don't like how the MSRP increased by nearly 50% AFTER they won the Best Value award. Customers that look at the knife now will see them advertising winning the award and it implies that it was at the current price. 50% increase is drastic in my view. Can you imagine Spyderco increasing the price of an Endura from $60 to $90 in the span of a year?

I can easily find it below $120. I bought 2 within the last few months, brand new from a respected store, for about $80. Can still get it there for $100, and they have some versions around $80 still.

I would post links but that is against bladeforum rules.

You are aware that the name was changed to Dark Raven?

Can you PM me the site? I would love to get one for $80. Dark Raven is the old name.

i dont see much wrong with it. knives go up in price, and they can indeed be found for under 100. they won the award in 2009, they might as well advertise that until such a time when its even more outdated.

Interesting, but I can see the complaint. If you look at their site, they state:

The Blackfoot was just voted the "Best Value Knife of the Year" at the "Blade Show" in Atlanta GA.

They don't state that it was awarded that award for 2009 & they use the current name of "Blackfoot." So, I would say that their advertisement is misleading.

Yes, costs go up, but if they wanted to be "up front", they should've advertised that it was 2009's Blade Show winner of that category, not that it was "just" awarded it.

I think the price of S30V steel has gone up considerably in the last few months. The Spyderco Military went up in price like $20-$30 at most online stores, any one sel notice this?

I'm not sure about the whole advertising thing but I have a very high opinion of the Lone Wolf Blackfoot. It has very solid construction, possibly the toughest liner lock I have yet to encounter. It has very nice figured (when you see it in real life) ebano wood scales, and their heat treat on the s30v has impressed me very much so far. And I just got one about 2 months ago for $89.
