I just received this knife about an hour ago, along with a couple other items. Out of the box the Longhorn had a couple of problems that will be easily fixed. One was the horizontal blade play that will only require the pivot to be tweaked, which I would normally do anyway. Second, the blade was centered, but tightening the pivot should rectify that small problem. Everything else seems to be good. The fit/finish is excellent, lockup is solid and to the left with full tang coverage. The checkered G-10 handles feel really good in my hand as they are not too aggresive, but they allow a firm hold to be had on the knife. I like the fact that it comes with phospher-bronze washers, and that it has a really good heft to it for a smaller knife (5.5 ounces). I just love the blade shape. It is sorta a cross between a clip point and a reverse tanto, if you can envision that! The S30V blade is ground to a razor sharp edge that just popped the hairs when I tested it, I mean the hair just jumped up and away as in fear!:). Lastly the clip is also ideal as it is mounted at the very top with a tip down carry, and allows the knife to really ride deep. Though I will probably use my torch to modify it to a foldover clip as it will make a great one with very little work.

All in all for the ~$80 I spent I think I got a real deal with this one!:)

As I mentioned yesterday, the longhorn came with a couple of "problems" out of the box; the uncentered blade when closed, and the horizontal blade play.

I mentioned that a simple tightening of the blade would take care of the problem, and it did! You do have to take the G-10 plates off to get to the pivot screw as it is a "hidden" pivot, and does give it a cleaner look.

Anyway, all is good with it and I'm satisfied!:)

I bought two Longhorns on closeout, probably from the same place as you, and I like them a lot. Mine came perfect with no blade wiggle and solid lock up. I took off the scales to see what the pivot looked like and it looks like Lone Wolf put some strong loctite on there. I'm glad I didn't have to adjust it.

The minor complaint I have is that the closed blade retention is a little weaker than I would like.

I noticed the loctite, but I held my thumb on the back of the pivot and gave it a hard quick turn and it came loose so that I had no trouble getting it tighter. Haven't really noticed the retainer pressure of the lock when closed, but with the tight pivot I keeps the blade stays put in the closed position. I did give the liner a tad more bend though, to get a stiffer lockup. The liner still hit the same spot on the blade tang as it did before the bend.

We probably did purchase the knives in the same place, down there on the bayou!:D

Which handle material did you get, G-10 or Ebano wood?

I got a Longhorn on closeout. No problems or blemishes noted. It's very well built. I was really hoping that there would have been a few T3 's being discontinued that Lone Wolf had kept back as possible warranty repair replacements.

I had only bought one before they stopped making them and I regret that. I love that knife and think It's my favorite XXL folder ever, even passing the Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5 in D2, and the Ontario Hossum retribution with it's 1/8th inch Ti liners. It makes the Rukus seem tame, and the Skirmish seem small.

I received my Longhorn in G10 yesterday. It is my first Lone Wolf purchase and I wanted to try their brand before Benchmade started producing them. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the knife. Mine too, came with a little lateral blade play and it was a little off center when closed. I popped the scale off and tightened it down pretty good, which centered the blade and eliminated all blade play. The blade retention is pretty weak on mine as well, which is why I will keep the pivot pretty tight on this knife. I added some Benchmade lube to the pivot to hopefully create some smoothness when opening, as the knife is pretty stiff right now. The G10 on this knife is perfect for me. I'm able to get a solid grip, but it is not too aggressive. Seems pretty similar in quality and texture to my Spyderco Para, being just a bit more grippy than the Para. I like how the pocket clip rests so closely to the scales and is positioned for a deep carry. The jimping is a little smooth, but if you really bear down with hard use, it will help to lock in your thumb. Overall, this seems like a pretty rugged folder with a high quality steel and quality materials. It can't be beat at the $80 price point. Sad to see them go to Benchmade though.

lone wolf knives are the sharpest by far out of the box that I have gotten (to be fair, I only have four brands of knives in a quantity of 3 or more).

the long horn has a really nice full feeling in your hand too. it is just solid as heck.

I've got the Long Horn and the Cheyenne on their way to me and I'm excited to get my hands on them! I'll post up my impressions when they arrive.

When I gave the liner a bit more bend, it tightened up the retention a good bit.:)
