Lone Wolf T2 - Micarta or Nylon scales, model?

I am trying to decide on a new Lone Wolf T2, but I am not sure if I should get the micarta or nylon scales. There is a store near my house that has the nylon scale version, which I have handled, but they do not have the micarta model. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the T2s? Would it be worth ordering a micarta version?

While I am at it, I am also stuck choosing between the Ranger and Tactical versions. (Good slicer vs tip strength?)

Also, does anyone know if the Harsey models have been discontinued?

Thanks!

I have the green/black micarta version. I think it's a great knife. I actually prefer the smooth handles over textured ones. As far as blade styles go, just pick the one you like best.

From what one of my suppliers is saying the T3 Tactical is discontinued but there are still quite a few in the pipeline. I have one of the T3 rangers and it is a tremendous knife and the tip is stonger than the tactical model. The spear point of the tactical model does not realy provide any advantage over the Ranger in either cutting performance or piercing performance. The T3 ranger is still available but may be being discontinued as well.

I have one of the T2 rangers and I love the blade profile. The tip seems robust enough for digging and penetrating oil/fuel cans. Anything more than that and you would want a pry bar or a tanto tip anyway. For a large folder it carries well and slices great.

Thanks for the info, it sounds like the Ranger is the one I'll go for. Now for the handles...

I would go for nylon, particularly if it is a user. I feel that the nylon will give a slightly better grip and it is definately more impact resistant. If you drop the micarta on a hard surface (concrete for example) it can chip, nylon won't.

the only other thing you should know is the pocket clip makes the knife stick out of your pocket alot, something to consider.

Good point, I didn't think about chipping. (I was thinking more about grip)

I just went through this process myself, and ended up ordering the T2 Ranger version with the nylon scales. I should have mine in about a week.

I did like the looks of the tactical version, but I really, really like flat ground blades and it certainly seems quite "tactical" enough -- so I went with the Ranger. As for the scales, I didn't have a strong preference one way or another, but I thought the black textured nylon looked a big "cleaner" on the knife, and it was a few bucks cheaper, if I remember correctly. So there was no reason for me to go with anything but nylon.

One thing I would like to hear about from owners is the edge geometry. Is it a nice thin edge that takes advantage of the hardness of the premium steel? Spyderco usually does a very good job of this, and I'll be very happy if the Lone Wolf does too.

Bump for comments, hopefully...

I have the T2 tactical with black textured nylon handle and I love it.I haved carried the spyderco miltary for many years as my #1 untill I got the T2!- A.G.Russel.com carries it for $199.95 or about $200. I like the smaller one that "only" has a 4 inch blade. The knife fells perfect in my hand.

I also have one of these; IMHO it's one of the best "large" linerlocks out there. Beautifully made with great grinds.
Razor sharp out of the box just like a Spyderco, and a terrific Bill Harsey design. Lone Wolf makes really nice knives.

I had the T2 in Carbon Fiber. Still regret selling that one.

I'd go with the G-10 over the Nylon. Love the grippyness and texture on G-10.

Either way you'll be happy--it's a very nice knife.
