What can the collective tell me about Lone Wolf's Paul knives?
I was looking at them online and they look rather nice for a gentlemen's folder. How well do they work as a small EDC? Did they do a good job on the heat treatment of the 420HC? Has anyone handled the new Paul Perfecto? How do the Paul series compare to the City Knife from Lone Wolf?

Thanks everyone.

I haven't seen or handled a Perfecto, but I do have a Lone Wolf Paul folder and the Loveless City Knife. The City Knife is made on Italy for Lone Wolf by Fantoni and the Paul folder is made in the USA at Lone Wolf's Portland factory. Both are nice little knives, but they are overpriced in my opinion. The City Knife is unique in that it is a slipjoint folder with an adjustable pivot. Out of the box, my City Knife was razor sharp and had a bit of side to side wobble. Tightening the pivot screw reduced the side wobble, but it doesn;t open as smoothly. Fit and finish is okay. I like the Paul folder better because of the neat mechanism and the different handle scales available, plus it's smaller. I haven't used the Paul all that much aside from opening a few envelopes here and there. It's still shaving sharp, but since it's not been used all that much, I can't really comment on it's edge holding qualities. You'll find that the Paul folders exhibit a tiny bit of up/down blade play because of the mechanism. It's necessary for the lock to engage properly, but the stop pin is eccentric and can be adjusted (with a very small hex key) to reduce the play. It's not a perfect little knife, but there's a charming quality about it.

I'm with Chunk on all points. I have a Paul Perfecto, which I picked up mainly for the unique locking mechanism and the wharncliff style blade (I'm partial to that shape). The blade play is noticeable and annoyed me at first. Now I use it only for the simple tasks of opening letter, kid's toys, and digging out the occasional splinter. It makes a nice "Sunday-go-to-meeting" knife. If I anticipate doing any real cutting, I either leave it and carry something else, or walk back to the car for my Ratweiler. :D

I just picked up one of A.G Russell's version of the Paul Pocket folder with raindrop damascus and pearl scales (I know, too much disposable income burning a hole in my pocket :D). I really like the knife, especially the locking mechanism, since it locks closed too. It came with a nice leather pocket sheath, cleaning cloth, etc. Fit and finish seemed excellent and appropriate for the price. It was on par with my WH knives for fit and finish. It is my new "go to the office and don't scare the sheeple knife". There's my sample size of one...for what it's worth. BTW, it's 20% off for a while, if you have the right coupon code (email me if you need it). Here's a link.

I was unaware of the vertical bladeplay. That is a big turn off for me. Thank you gentlemen for saving me some cash. :D
