This is a rather large knife I've been working on and I still have somemore work to do on the blade but thought I'd go ahead and post a picture of it. 12" blade of 1065, wrought iron fittings and a curley maple handle. 18" total length.

Not what I would call a classic Bowie style blade, but I like it none the less. As always the quench line that you got on this blade is outstanding.

Is the ring that you put on the pommel of all your knives for a pull strap?

Keith, I figure it can be used for a thong but it really helps me to put them together plus I like the looks of them. This is a design I just pulled out of my head on this knife like all the rest I make....

I'm wanting the hamon to jump out at you so alot of hand rubbing and polishing. Then I might even sharpen it although the point already darn sharp....

Beautiful knife! I like the angular handle and pommel. The grooves look great against the maple. Very nice blade, and different!

looks great, what do you hand rub with? I am working on my second knife and am still learning? Paul

The image of this knife had been lost a few different times of this knife but it appears to be back again. I went and forged three more blades of this type over the holiday, this one is now a medium. The one I did Sunday has a 16" blade.

Paul, I'll be working it down with real fine wet/dry. I've got some slight inclusions close to the tip that I also want to make disappear.

Yo, R.R.
That is some sweet blade, :). I know you said you pulled it out of your head, so I don't want to disagree with that. I have seen similar blades, not exactly alike, but similar. One in particular comes to mind that yours reminds me of. It is a 'GAUCHO' knife I saw once. It had been a sword at one time and the fellow that had it either broke it or ground it down and made a handle for it. It was wickedly sharp with about a 13" blade. Carried in the small of his back, like I carry all my knives. The spine was very straight, and the clip was carried well to the back. (Heavy sigh) it was beautiful.
Just as yours, it made me drool :) . Ciao. c.j.g.

Keith, I'm working on it. I'm going hunting in just a bit for a very large stag crown to use for a handle for it.

Truly a beautiful piece. Y'know, with a different handle a 12-to-16-inch blade like that would make for a VERY fine Scottish dirk. . .
