I picked up this axe on the weekend as we returned from vacation and am wondering what pattern it would fit into. Appears forged, 36" haft split at the eye (light coloured hickory?), three steel wedges, 12" long bit, ~ 5 1/2" blade, very solid feel to the hanging, and overall a new type to add to my collection. Any info on type/uses etc will be appreciated. Btw it carries beautifully slung over one shoulder! Looks like a francisca on steroids to me!

It was sold as 1800's French axe, but I don't often put too much stake in labels at antique markets!!
Thank you for the first step!

i have got a beret but not auvergnat accent, but i tell you this is french!
might be some particular felling axe as french felling axes were long nosed ,but this one is weirdly fitted ,like those felling axes i told, the one shown on video and a francisca...
not uncommon to find a 1800 and so in france...
