Let me cry on your shoulders a bit. Monday I sent a new commander back to EKI for some lock work, post office priority, forgot to insure it.I sent it to the EKI post office box,so today I call to make sure it arrived. The only thing that arrived was a priority box with a nice slice in the side and my empty commander box.I know,Iknow,my fault I should have insured it but my lame ass forgot.Just a hint for what it's worth now,if you have to send something back mark it EKI then the rest of the address,NOT Emerson Knives Inc. I found out the hard way even the local female postal clerk knows about Emerson knives. I hope the sorry S O B who stold it had the lock close on his/her hand. Also since I didn't insure it I can't file a claim, probably wouldn't do any good anyway. Learn from my mistake, even if you're short of cash go to the ATM and insure your parcels.

I might add, I have heard horror stories from people regarding USPS, UPS and FedEx that they hardly every pay the damned amount that you purchase in insurance.

Insure it for more than what it is worth too...substantially.

I think one guy purchased like $750.00 in Insurance and they would only give him $500.00

Take heed and make them pay for their lack of security.

What excuse did they give you?

Imagine that, another Commander with a lock problem.

I think I'm going to start a thread and see how many have had Emersons' with bad liner locks.

They told me before they could issue me a check, they had to determine. IF the package truly was not delivered??? Where it was lost? If it was lost? How, where and why it was stolen? I have become so tired of the BS that I have written it off as a loss... The package contained a whole bunch of auto care products (waxes, glazes, soap, etc) That I really didn't want to drag back on the plane with me... I learned my lesson!!!

i have a customised(not custom) commander coming in the mail. but it was mailed on the 16th of january, and i get the impression that i wont be seeing it anytime soon.

i share your grief

Mitch,

Did the guy Insure it for what it is worth?

I sent a Postal Money Order to a gentleman as payment for an awesome Rekat Hobbit Warrior earlier this month. I sent it regular mail and it took three F'n weeks to get there.

Talk about embarrassing! "I swear I sent it. Here is a jpg of the receipt for the postage and the stub from the MO".

Just as I was about to bite the bullet and go set a second Money Order, the first one arrived. I freakin' hate the Post Office!

I should also mention I received great service from Murray at Pro Edge Knives dispite the Post Office and would highly recommend him as a dealer.

IT CAME.
it is a Kevin Robertson( i think) customised commander.

titanium bolsters and black micarta scales.
satin finish 2000 dated serated blade.

this is what an emerson should be!!!!

The safest way to send something is to delivery it by hand

I have had way too much stuff lost by the USPS and if you don't have a reciept for the item, no refund. I had a package that I sent to CA with two knives in it and it made it there with only one. The box was damaged and one of them had fell out. Well, I didn't have a reciept where I had purchased the knife new so no money! It really sucks to pay all that extra $$$ for the insurance only to find out it is worthless. I thought that is why you paid the extra. I think UPS or FED EX is the way to go. By the way, I sent the guy his money back for the lost knife and he was tickled to death.

I think if they will not refund the money in the case you cited, that you ahve a Court Case.

If I buy something from someone on E-bay, it is virtually impossible to get the "proof" they require.

When you buy insurance, it is just that, insurance. You are entering into a contract and I believe that contract is enforced by law. They would sure as hell bust your ass if you defrauded them, SO...it would stand to reason that you too, have rights under that contract with them.

Ahhh, but you're forgetting Don - it's the USPS, which is the Government. They NEVER give something for nothing, even if you paid for it to be that way.

They are Semi-Government, they are playing in the Private Sector, they turn a Profit.

In other words, they are not "ordinary" Bureaucrats. Very few Government entities that you actually pay a fee to, if you go by the convenient fiction that your tax dollars are not doing that.

In other words, you are paying them for a service. And in the case of insurance, you are paying for that. Yes, they are powerful because of their position, they also leave themselves open to lawsuits, possibly in small claims, for such violations of the law. And that is precisely what these are.

When they will not honor their contract with you, they are in fact defrauding you and stealing from you, because their Employees in their charge are doing the stealing.

I think it was Darrel Ralph that told me that UPS or Fed-Ex would not honor the $750.00 worth of insurance and instead gave him $500.00 I believe...I cannot remember.

Don, you are a silver-tongued devil. I agree wholeheartedly. I just wish it was easier to "F" with them after they "F" with you. ya know?

And you quote The Man... I knew I liked ya.
