Can I use Outers RIG rust inhibiting grease for long term blade storage? I want to prevent rust.

Why dont you just get some food grade calcium grease? Cheap, will certainly protect from rust and you can still use the knife in any way you want, including food preparation, processing game, etc.
Even more simple, rub a bit of mineral oil on it every once in a while. Calcium grease will hold on much longer though.

RIG works good, but it can be messy. I use Renaissance Wax on my blades, and store them in pouches away from their sheaths.

For non food use knives I use a light coat of Corrosion Block. It’s available in liquid , aerosol , grease.
As mentioned above I also use Ren wax.

What conditions are you storing in ?

Grease coating is very effective but serious overkill for most environments .

Not much fun to take out your grease coated knives to play with !
