Long, narrow stealthy backpack

I am in the market for a stealthy (black, camo, low profile) backpack that is longer than the average backpacks and bookpacks that you can pick up at REI or the local outdoor store. I need to fit a broken-down metal detector in the back and have it fully secured inside. It would be helpful if the pack was "backpack" looking to blend in and not look like something bizarre, but also something that isn't seen at night (no reflectorizing, etc.). Maybe something that's about 10 or 12 inches longer than a typical college-style bookpack.

Anyone have any recommendations?

For non standard shapes and sizes you could make your own. There are websites that have all the material, cordura nylon, straps etc to make packs or other items.

Okay kinzli, I just have to ask...what the hell are you up to? Who needs to stealthily carry a metal detector in the middle of the night?

 ;) this is really interesting......

Ok guys, it's not necessarily what it seems...

I do some metal detecting out in the forest and off the beaten trail. To get there, I ride my bike. I want something that I can stuff my detector and stuff into and ride to a spot and not stick out like a sore thumb. I'd like to "fit in" on my way to the spot. Once I get there, I never see anyone. Since I work days, I often go at night, advantage also because there's many fewer folks around.

Metal detectors are pretty expensive and I'd like to camoflage it as best I can.

I was going to ask the very same thing!!!!!!!!!

I'm a big fan of the Maxpedition Falcon backpack, rectangular in shape yet roomy enough for most of what you need!
