Long term knife storage

Hello

This is a matter I have been wondering about, have looked at a few opinions about, and have found out several different methods and solutions.

Basically, the question is in the title :)

How would you keep your knives long term at home ?
Would you keep them in the boxes, and white paper ?
Would I need to air them now and again?
Would they need to be oiled or any other preservative applied ?

At the moment, I have mines, which are not being used, in their boxes wrapped up in the white tissues. There are several knife with wood inlays. They are all in a large safe, with very little air circulation.

What do you do ? and do you have any recommendations for storage ?

Thanks

Mark

I keep mine as you. wiped off, but in tissue and box. I haven't had a problem yet.

Thanks Dave. Glad to hear that you've had no problems with our storage method.

I also make sure that there is no moisture, finger prints or sweat, etc, on them. Not sure if that matters :footinmou but, if it's not on them it can't do any harm :grumpy:

Cheers :D

I keep a dessicant in my safe to try to keep moisture down. I wipe the blades with a TufCloth prior to storing too.

Most of mine are in the top drawer of my night stand, wrapped in tissue and resting snuggly in their boxes. ;)

The users are in the top drawer of my dresser, the wall hangers are hanging on the wall in display boxes.

I've got my knives that I don't carry or use in vacum sealed bags. I wipe the blades with Tuf Cloth, then seal them in the same bags I use to seal food it. It sucks out all of the air, then they go in the safe with my gun collection.

For very long term, would the knife be better without any oils or preservatives, i wonder?

All these materials have a lifespan. Of course, periodical oil changes ( :footinmou ) would combat this.

Just a thought :D for low maintenance, over an indefinite time, how about a moisture free environment and no additives whatsoever applied ?

Mark :)
