Long term storage and rust

Concerned about long term collecting and potential for rust. Started collecting folding knives the past couple of years. Already have lots of money in these knives. Currently storing my knives in a glass cabinet with a couple of renewable silica dehumidifiers. Prefer the glass cabinet so I can actually enjoy them rather than locked up in a pelican case. House has connected security, video, and wife works from home. So that is not an issue either. Humidity is around 45% in the case and 55% outside the case. Concerned about long term collecting and potential for rust. I did some reading that stable metals should be okay with a RH between 35% up to 55%. However the lower the better and less than 35% RH is ideal. I keep the blades protected with a lubricant but don’t plan disassemble to check the tang and areas around the pivot. Anybody had any issues with rust forming on their collector knives over the years? Ever disassemble a knife to find rust around the tang when their was no signs of rust on the blade? Anybody monitor humidity? How do you display and store? What type of climate do you have?

im in very wet all the time florida. ive found fingerprints cause far more rust over time than humidity. clean them well from salty sweat or fingerprints. i prefer wax over oils. ive found from experience its better than silicone, frog nonsense, or oils. once cleaned and prepped correctly......wax wont let them rust.

ive also found using them to cut things removes and limits rust.:)

Renaissance wax if you are only storing them and occasionally looking at them. Looking at often, light coat of oil on metal surfaces and refresh periodically.
Maintain a fairly uniform temperature indoors and humidity below 50% on average. Avoid letting things get extremely hot or cold where the dew point comes more into play.

Once you have the corrosive stuff off wax will do what you want and isn't as messy as oils and grease. It will allow you to pick them up and put them back without worrying about fingerprints. JB Monkey and 22 rimfire are correct. Renn wax makes the blades look real nice too.

Whoah man that sounds like an awesome setup. I pictured the scene from entrapment when Catherine Jones went through the lasers to get to your knives. Post some pics man we would love to see your high security knife cabinet. Curiosity is killing me. Lol

you asking me or the op? cause im not following?

Been using Ren wax for years. Never a problem. Use it for car guns that sit in the middle compartment and get neglected; also with no problems. Pretty humid where I live.

Like any tool, you need to oil your knives for storage and keep them out of sheaths to prevent rust from forming.

If you can maintain 40% or less constantly you won't see any rust. Storing them in open dry air is much better than having them in anything else.
