Any suggestions?

I have a handfull of decent knives which I no longer carry or use for one reason or another. I'm not real keen on the idea of selling them so I want to hang on to them, even if they hang around longer than I do. I don't want my grandkids to unwrap a piece of rust though. so I want to store them right. They are mostly just common production knives of realtively modest value, so we're not talking major investment here.

Get all the metal parts squeaky clean with rubbing alcohol or acetone and then dip them in hot beeswax or parafin. When you want to use them again just heat them up with a hair dryer and wipe the wax off. Good as new.

I too store my knife collectio for extended periods of time. I've had the best luck by using this method..
First I clean them super clean ,then polish them to a high luster. The next step requires that no finger
prints be left on the knife anywhere so I use gloves or a clean soft rag to handle the knife. Next I
add just the smallest drop of oil to the blades spreading it with a "Q" tip over the the entire metal
surfaces (ONLY!) of the knife. The final step is to wrap each knife in plastic food wrap to seal
in the oil and protect from the leather is stored in the sheath. The store them in a clean dry place
'till needed.
I've had knives stored like this for up to 6-7 years with no ill effects. They all look like brand new
when un-wrapped. Try it it might work for you also.
