Long term wear of Grooved blade

I just got a Groove on a trade (Thank you OL), & would like to know if anyone's used it as an EDC? I'm especially interested on how the grooves on the blade wear? Does it scratch up worse or much less than a regular blade?

I like the size & love how it flips open manually, so I'm considering using it as part of my "larger knife" EDC rotation.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

mmmm...several threads come to mind, but I'm not going to spend the time looking for them now. IIRC, stated by RJ:

the grooves in the blade reduce blade resistance about 80%...
sharpening the blade won't effect the grooves...or vice versa (if you really wanted to sharpen your grooves)...
uummm...something else...can't remember what it was...

The non-AO's from Kershaw flip really fast...even the robust ZT0200 opens fairly quickly.

I had my Groove going on for quite some time. Then I opened the ENER-G box. Now the Groove is #3 in pocket time, behind the ENER-G and the Blur...but that too may soon change, as I await my new BOA (and the RAM, and the all black Shallot)! With all the new stuff coming out, and then the steel changeovers this fall, I really should consider selling some of these I have BNIB...OK I considered it...nah, I don't think I will...

Go on and carry it...

Thanks for the info, yes, I did a search & read about how the grooves reduce friction by about 80%.

My question, however, is does the grooves reduce (Or hide) scratches on the blade, that usually occurs with alot of use?

I've given my Groove a pretty good workout, and don't notice the scrapes and scratches on it as much as I do the bead blasted finishes...hope that helps!

I have the black coated Tanto. I haven't scratched it yet. With less suface area,
it should scratch less. As far as hiding the scratches.....I really can't say one way
are the other.
Oh, It does get EDC about 40-50 percent of the time. Great knife IMHO.

Yes, I'm surprised how nice it is. The first thing I did, was set it up for tip-up carry (Of course). Then a friend suggested I take the G-10 off the clip side (Which I read about on here, too), & I've done that. It's "almost" too loose clipped to the pocket, but it sure makes it easier to get out.

i've taken the scale off on the clip side with my other groove too. perfect coming out of the pocket.

if you use the knife for food prep, make sure that you clean the grooves really well. those collect alot of stuff, along with reducing friction. enjoy buddy!

I don't understand that. Some of you use your folders for food prep. Isn't that why kitchen knives are made?

True... but my Speed Bump makes an excellent steak knife:D Besides, all I have is crappy kitchen knives. Don't worry though, the Spec Bump I traded you never went anywhere near food:p

Man Law clearly states one may use his EDC for food prep as long
as it's sharp and clean. Page 4, paragraph 3. :D

I thought there's a sub-section stating only if you killed or caught your meal. ;)

to be honest, i am to lazy to use a kitchen knife and besides, my EDC will always be sharp compared to the kitchen knives

The votes still out on that one. We're waiting on a re-count from Florida. :D

Dang...some of us "big boys" might starve before that happens.

...Okay the vote sorta jus' came in from "The Merri-Golders Home for Senior Citizens" down here in sunny Florida. They just finished their vote for the 2000 presidency and took up this vote as they were "wheeled" out of the center...The consensus was:...

"If you've knocked it off their hooves you can cut it with yer "Grooves"...

Vote result delivered by Henrietta Boiseliuox via her Power of Attorney Ellenore DeFoe...( Henrietta had fallen asleep...:D )
