Hey All
As the title suggests I've been lurking and looking so I thought I'd better say Hi! properly before diving in.
I grew up in Zimbabwe where I learned to make knives because at my Dad (retrospectively rather intelligently) wouldn't give his 13yo one of the ones his company were handing out to clients at Christmas. He had however taught me over the years to be relatively handly in the workshop so I started out much the same as many a maker on power-saw blades until the magic moment when I discovered you could buy steel MEANT for knifemaking!!!! From there it's been downhill and expensive
I attended my first knife show after moving to South Africa at 18 and found out what lengths you could really take knifemaking. I signed up for a course on how to make linerlocks, practiced for a few years and joined the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa. My main love is folding knives though I make most anything from kitchen knives to choppers and dabble in casting silver beads. I just love intricate things in general and the mechanisms appeal to me, I also have a penchant for watches and as with most things the more expensive and fiddly the better!
Here's a pic or five of past works:
Nice to "meet" you all.
