Hey All

As the title suggests I've been lurking and looking so I thought I'd better say Hi! properly before diving in.

I grew up in Zimbabwe where I learned to make knives because at my Dad (retrospectively rather intelligently) wouldn't give his 13yo one of the ones his company were handing out to clients at Christmas. He had however taught me over the years to be relatively handly in the workshop so I started out much the same as many a maker on power-saw blades until the magic moment when I discovered you could buy steel MEANT for knifemaking!!!! From there it's been downhill and expensive

I attended my first knife show after moving to South Africa at 18 and found out what lengths you could really take knifemaking. I signed up for a course on how to make linerlocks, practiced for a few years and joined the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa. My main love is folding knives though I make most anything from kitchen knives to choppers and dabble in casting silver beads. I just love intricate things in general and the mechanisms appeal to me, I also have a penchant for watches and as with most things the more expensive and fiddly the better!

Here's a pic or five of past works:

Welcome to Bladeforums! I love your work and have been eyeing your knives for a while now. Any chance you would ever make lefty versions?

Very nice work, sir!:cool: Like Cynic, I too have already seen some of your knives proudly posted here... stunning!

Welcome to the Forums!

Thanks Cynic!

Lefties account for about 20% of my work actually :) That said I'm booked to the gills for now...

Wow man you make some nice stuff, I really like the top knives and the blue skulls knife. Watch out for black mambas, and lions.

Welcome to the forums. I love the blue/skulls knife blade!

The first folders you have at the top of the forums per quite nice too.

Lions I've only ever seen on the other side of a fence but have had many a run-in with mambas and boomslangs! Don't see them now we live in town though :)

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Welcome to Bladeforums. We are glad to have you.
Beautiful work on the folders and the kitchen knife.

WOW absolutely stunning work. I'm very curious as to what knife model it is in the very first pic you posted of the four folders.

Thanks kindly! I call the design WarLock. Began life like this:

Then developed with input from a client who became a close mate and critiques all my work :) into this :

Gareth, can you please tell me about that kitchen knife? The handle looks like Buckeye Burl. It's terrific.

Hey Rev sure thing

Stabilized buckeye burl (the rest of the block is going on a matching parer for the gyuto's owner)
CF ferrule
Yellow G10 spacers either side of a titanium spacer.
Tapered Wa handle
M390 blade convex ground
Fully radiused on the spine and around the heel section.

I'll take it! :D

It truly is one of the best looking kitchen knives I've seen. That is one lucky cutomer with a fantastic cutter.

Thanks
