Hey All,

We are just getting back from our long winter trip and starting in a couple of weeks, we'll be getting to work on the home that we didn't finish last year. I packed the BK5 all last year, bush-whacked many a trail onto our previously untouched property, and pretty much worked the hell out of it every day. It rocked it. Just after we left for winter vacation, I pretty much began wearing my BK11 every day again (which was later lost in the Verde River in AZ) because of the lighter wait and the ease with which I can comfortably wear it around my neck. I relegated the BK5 to kitchen duty, a role that it completely excelled at.

So now, I'm almost back on the property and other than some of the spring regrowth, I suddenly no longer need the long BK5 as much as I needed it last year and my 11 was lost! I need (WANT) another knife! I'm looking at getting something smaller than the 5, such as a 16 or 17. It will clean game and pretty much be used as an all around knife that I wear on my hip and like the BK5, run through the mill for this next year. Also, I like the BK10. I feel that the weight (same as the 5) but shorter length, more durable, and still pretty slicey would probably rock it pretty hard. I probably would have bought the 10 instead of the 5 were it released at the time.

I love the 5 and honestly may not be able to wear something else and be as satisfied with the capabilities. It excelled at just about everything. I only had two issues with it and they're fairly petty. The first was that whenever I would sit, the sheath would drag and that's after I tied it up higher (copied someone on these threads :D). Second, any serious batoning saw some blade flex that had me a tiny bit on the worried side so I just pretty much stopped using it to split wood. I have other things that can split wood better anyways. I kind of like the idea of a knife between the 5 and the 2. 10 might fit the bill?

Anyways, any ideas or suggestions would rock it. Anyone field tested the hell out of the 10? I'll write up a fat review of the awesome 5 later this Spring, maybe Summer and will definitely share it here.

Hey survivormind...i do not own a 10 but do own a 5 and 2 7s...as you said i love the 5 for pretty much everything and was impress about how light it is for such long blade.i do have a2 on my shopping list but i love my 7 over the 10.i think i have a hard time with the stubby nose of said 10. Maybe give the 7 a chance and some love,it ll serve you well.

I own a 10 and absolutely love it! No matter what other knives I have at hand the 10 is always the one I grab
I like the 5" blade length because I feel it's long enough to do some serious work, for instance a couple weeks ago I chopped/battoned it through a 4" diameter log, worked like a dream.
If you decide to get one you won't regret it

For a belt knife, the 15 is hard to beat. If you want something thats more stout, the 12 or the 10 doesnt sound like a bad call either.

The 10 is a great knife but I would suggest the tweeners such as the 15 or the 16 might be more up your alley.... That is assuming you will have an axe/ hatchet of some sort... If not they go with the 10

Here is my 10 after some time in my shed with access to beer and tools.

Thanks for the input, dudes. I've been thinking the 16 or 17 because I have a hawk that I've seen a ton of use out of and always have nearby. At the same time, I don't take it with me when walking around, hunting, fishing, etc., so it's not always there. I like the idea of having a 10 because I feel I could beat it up a bit more than the 5 (just a theory) and I also would like to go a little shorter on the blade length than a 7. 5" to 5 1/2" I was thinking. Obviously, I need to mull it over for a bit.

If only Ethan made a Becker Nessmuk...

I'll never not recommend a 10.

Lol mountainmist

I would go with a tweener. I love knives that size, I like the 17 more than the 16 but I don't have any experience with the 10 or 5.

But in theory it sounds like the 10 would be your best bet if you want something a bit more stout.

If you love the 5 but want something a bit smaller, I say 15.
Blade's a bit longer than the 16 and 17. (I don't have a 10 to compare it to.)
I do love my 7 and 16, though. You seriously won't go wrong with any of 'em.

Go for a 15, you already love the blade style and it is plenty stout for just about anything but prying IMOP.
If you are carving or drilling a 16 or 17 will serve you better though.

16 is my suggestion. I've batoned the $(#$% out of mine and it's small & light compared to a 5. I'd even go for a kydex rig if your going to carry it everyday. IMO the sheath is a bit bulky for the size of the knife and I have the same issues that you do when sitting down. Higher riding kydex solves this.

I think you have your heart set on a 10, so I know what I say will probably be moot, however, I think a 7 might be the one you'll get the most use out of and it seems it fits the parameters of your needs more so than the smaller 10. Anyway...enjoy the 10 regardless.
