Ok folks,

I've been asked 100 times...Rob do you make knives?

Here is what I did over the weekend. This was made for yours truly.

folder1.jpg

Mvc-144s.jpg

Specs:
6" OAL
bronze bolsters and thumb stud
Blade steel is S7, triple edge queched from non-magnetic
Iron wood scales.
Ti liners
My own pivot..made from H13 hand lapped to the blade.

Am I a knifemaker?...heck no! I'm just a machinst guy that made himself a knife.

What do you all think?

sincerely,
Rob

Looking good Rob. Looks like you can give up that low paying engineering, and machinery design business now, and jump on the millionaire knifemaking bandwagon.
Ahh, big motorcars, groupies(at least for Kit), mansions at the coast. ;) :D

I think a certain machinist should make more knives! That looks great Rob, better be careful though, you might let those KMG1 orders fall behind while you become obsessed with making knives!:D

That looks great Rob! Congratulations on a job well done. I'll bet it's slick as a whistle and built like a tank too! :)

I like it! :D

I love the way the thumbstud grooves into the front bolster.

S7? Don't you think that's a little bit fragile for a gentleman's folder :p

Alright Rob:D
Better be careful, before long you will be finding more excuses to spend time making knives...
Ask me how I know this.

An you have been making knives for how long??
Looks good bubba.
OH! Rob I`ll send you a rough sketch on that
thing that I sent you an E mail about. I have
just been busy, I`m sure you know how that is.

that is one slick little folder! very nice:)
maybe we will be taking lessons from you at the hammerin!:D great job!
Rob,bring it with you to the hammerin,im sure the guys would love to see it!

well rob, there was a machinest that started making a knife or two. you might have heard of him? bob loveless

Ok, so I'm in the shower this afternoon thinking about the whole knifemaking gig(while washing of course) and it occurs to me that knifemakers are basically plain ol' machinists with a real need to make sharp pointy things and any machinist worth his/her salt should be able to crank out a really decent knife. So I come here and what do I see?
rfrink, you really did one Helluva nice job on that piece. It looks to me you could easily switch careers if the desire struck you.

Im certainly not surprised that you can make a knife. You have to be knife maker of sorts to make knife grinding equipment I would think. That folder is very precision looking. Nice work.

One question....... What is H13 for the pivot?
One more question.......Do you sell pivots?
Ive never been too happy with the pivots available from the regular sources.
