hello guys,

I.m looking into getting my first bow, my eleven year old son has shown an interest in archery and I thought this would be a good thing for the two of us to do. I ordered my son a Black Rhino from http://www.bows.net , I decided to go the trad way as well and choose the longbow but my question is which one?
I researched a bit and the Bear Montana looks like a good one to start with but I also came across the Kustom King Black Forest here http://www.kustomkingarchery.com/Kustom-King-Black-Forest-Longbow/productinfo/4708/

Any advice would be kindly appreciated.

We're going to be shooting at the local range that was built for the 1984 Olympic games so hunting for now is not in the picture.

Thanks

I have a PSE Sequoia and enjoy shooting it though I'm terrible at it. Glad I didn't dump a bunch of money on a really expensive bow. That Black Forrest is a nicer looking bow than my PSE.

I just looked at the Sequoia over at Cabela's, nice looking bow not much cheaper than the Black Forest.

thanks

good choice. What are you planning on for arrows?
Check out Three Rivers Archery

Entrada Gold tip Carbon arrows are what I was considering for target, if I ever get to the hunting grounds I'll probably go with the Alaska Carbon.

thanks

Hell, if your going to go Trad with a long bow look into the Hex shafts from these guys
http://www.hexshaftarrows.com/index.html
I really like the whole trad thing in archery and have made several bows and a few dozen arrows. Not dumping on the tech wheel guys, But there is just something truely elegant about a well made long bow and a quiver full of hand made all wood natural fletched arrows.
YMMV

Good stuff, I'll look into that when the time comes,
and now we're off to our 1st archery lesson.

thanks again:thumbup:

Good luck! I make my own stuff as well; I've got an osage longbow that turned out really well.
Three Rivers is an excellent source for traditional tackle, everything from modern fiberglass laminates to bamboo-backed hickory and replica English longbows.
