longer bali routines!

The recent thread about bali katas got me thinking...

It would be nice to have some longer, more or less "standardized" routines to practise!

Maybe Clay or someone could put together some routines including 10, 20, 30 or more movements, that flows nicely ?

Since we already know the moves, it could be just a simple list, like this :
1. bite handle open & close
2. vertical pass
now left hand:
3. bite handle open & close
4. vertical pass
5. basic horiz open...
6. ...and flow into full twirl
7... well you get the picture

(Dang, we could even have belts! 8-) hmm maybe not)...

But whadd'ya think ?

I think that the best thing to do first would be to establish a common terminology

Creating terminology is going to be a hard job for everyone. Jeff Imada has named some techniques from his books and video, and then Clay has the same techniques but different names. Jeff's names are descriptions of what is going on: "double flip out-to-in opening" or "single flip up opening" etc, but of course the more difficult the trick the crazier the name is going to be. Clay's names (IMO) are easier to understand and remember.

What does everyone think?? Should we try to create universal balisong terminology?

comercialized balisong? Hmmmmm...and who would be the founder? Maybe we could come up with a logo, our colors so to speak.

Sorry, reminds me of the "tower of babalon".

I've argued for standardized terminology for quite some time and would be happy to see Clay develope a system. Right now, though, he's not quite there. This would be tedious work, classifing the various types of manipulations etc., and making videos of examples of each. So, we need to encourage him to take this task on for us.

Yeah, thanx Chuck. Just keep piling it up on my plate buddy.

The truth is, I'd love to take this project on. My biggest problem right now is time.

It's moments like this that I realize what an inconvenience my full time job is. Man, the things I could accomplish with that extra 9 or 10 hours a day.

Oh well, gotta pay the bills! Right??

is half the fun!

Hmm.... No free time due to full time job. Lets see, if everyone donates $10 we can buy Clay a week or two of free time to do what he wants. Kinda like a paid work vacation.

It would be for our own benefit... You could even donate more if you wanted to....

I say that each small trick or move gets a funky name of its own thats not neccesarily descriptive but it sounds cool.
oh yeah belts or maybe badges or tattoos or soemthing
they could be named after parts of the blade or movements that are mastered.

for an extra 9 or 10 hours a day just don't sleep, its a bad habit anyway, just like smoking and drinking. dreaming is really good though.
(you can tell I've been up for awhile)
