I thought I had read in a recent post a rumor/suggestion whatever about Spyderco making a longer blade for the gunting for use by military or police, but I can't find it now (type 'gunting' in the search function, well, you get a couple of matches). Is this probably going to happen, and would it be available to the general public? I ask because my Gunting had a TINY chip in the edge OOB. It's still scary sharp, and to remove the chip, small as it is, would still require the removal of alot of steel. I wouldn't want to do all that sharpening, or send it in just to get the same size blade. But, if I could send it in and get something a little longer for a few extra dollars...:D

I have met Bram and asked him the same question and he said no, Reason if I remember correctly is that 3" is legal in most U.S. States and he did not want to push the envelope on not being able have an edc carry in some states kinda of P.C. thang I guess.

True, true, but the 5" and 7" fixed blade prototypes have been created (the Lapulapu). They are very cool and we hope to be taking orders for custom versions by the end of the year.

No help for you with your chipped Gunting though :( , have you considered serrating the front half of the blade? It's a unique blade concept though, proposed by Joe Talmadge in some of his writng as a good combination of plain and serrated, though I can't recall seeing it in production anywhere. There is a legend that some such Guntings exist somewhere in the dark holds of Castle Glesser, but they may be mythical. A good idea I think because it conforms more to the areas of the blade where we do push cuts and draw cuts. Something to ponder.

Well - you haven’t been around long enough...

If memory serves me right - some 4-5 years ago, Mad Dog offered their ATAK2 in 3 different version: one with plain edge, one with serration at the base of the blade (common practice) and one with serration at the 1/3 of the blade closest to the tip.

I think they also had one at the middle 1/3 - but am not sure.

As for the longer Gunting: a fixed blade prototype called the GURU is being made in Israel by an Israeli custom maker and the Israeli importer of Spyderco - Scorpio, with the blessing and the logo of sifu Bram Frank.

It looks awesome!!!!

Wicked looking fixed blade, 8" blade with Gunting like horns that will enable the hooking and catching of an open Gunting to be employed.
