The kuk styles chaindadi, chitlagi, gelbu special, malla and kobra all look pretty similar to me. Of course I'm not too bright! :D Can someone explain to me the difference between these? Also if I missed a style please bring it up. Pics illustrating points would be extra helpful... Thanks...

The kamis do it deliberately to keep us confused.

GS has one broad fuller on each side. Chit has two fullers on each side. Chain is unfullered, but otherwise is close to the Chit in looks. Mall a does not have an enclosed cho.

gotcha so its looks primarily, --- also the Kobra and Siripati?

So price wise, more fullers = more work = more $ ?

I feel like I'm missing something, is there an advantage of one type over another of these similar styles?

I dunno, but no sirupati has ever felt right to me, but I've liked both 18(+) and 21" Chitlangis I've had. I had to give Kaylee from THR (she's the one on the left, with one of the bow staves she carved) the shorter Chit, because it was obviously meant for her.

Something about the sirupati's balance has always felt off, but that's why there are so many different models, I reckon. Something for everyone.

The thinner khuks are pretty similar but there are differences. The Malla has more bend in the blade, a flat spine and the open cho. The Gelbu specials have the large fullers which can lighten the blade and make it a little faster than say a sirupati of the same length. The chitlangis have that large bulbous cap on the end of the handle and are pretty fancy. They even have carving on the chakma that will distinguish it from the karda by feel(usually this is the case, not always). The chainpur has a more pointed blade and the larger end to the handle but without the brass buttcap.
