Has anyone been to Longwood Gardens outside of Philadelphia? The last time I went was when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I would like to go there for my birthday in July. I just want to spend the day walking around, maybe learn a little bit. Will they let me wander the grounds, like a museum? It looks beautiful. I want to visit the NMAI in DC, but I don't want to deal with the traffic. Looks like the Gardens start right where Rte 1 in PA turns from an expressway into a regular road.

I went here a number of years back with my wife and my parents, but back then, as now, it is a self paced walking tour of the indoor and outdoor areas that will take several hours depending on your pace. There are certain special days with limited hours, so check the website. I'm not sure of the "timed entry", that may be something new, to stagger the arrival of people at the same time.

It is a wonderful place, and even though I'm not a "flower" guy, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Make sure to share pics if you go!

I think that's a newer thing, must be because of the popularity. If you can arrange your arrival for a preset time, then you are able to check things out at your own pace. I think it is worth a small amount of hassle to view the excellent sites there...if you go, be sure to share pics!

I've been to Kennet Square many time and passed by but never actually went inside.

Hey Dan,

I was there just a couple years ago and been several times in total. It's very nice. There is a lot of things to see...most of it flowers and really neat landscaping. You could easily pass a few hours there. The timed thing is just so too many people don't go in at once. After that they don't limit how long you can be in there. In the evening some of the light shows they have are really neat if I remember correctly, but there fountain is cool too.

I'll give them a call. I am thinking of just spending the day at the battlefield in Gettysburg, a spot I've gone to a few times in the past. I'd still like to give them a try.
