Anyone recognize this knife? Maybe a apprentice knife? If so, what model was it based on.

i would think maybe a very modified badger, but kind of resembles a mean street.....

very cool never the less!

Almost looks like an early Bill Siegle knife.. Like one of his S30V Combat Knives. Are you sure it's a Busse?

I think the "Apprentences" would make a great whole new [interesting] area of Busse collecting

Here is my Mean Street Apprentice - I think she is really sweet  :D

No, I'm not sure it is a Busse apprentice knife, that is why I was asking if anyone thought it might be.

Not one of mine. I was thinking maybe an early Simonich. It has some of Rob's style to it to my eyes. If the sheath has a maker's mark they might remember the knife.

i was just about to post the same thing

the handle slab outlines immediately seems like simonichs work to me, and the choil/gaurd is to pointed for busse's general aesthetic, wich is generally much more circular for the ricasso/gaurd area.

while the blade almost comes out as a trident style, it still looks simonich when you take it in with the handle

it may be a busse apprentice blade, but for an apprentice blade (specifically compared to the other busse apprentice blades i've seen) it looks to have a lot of artistic license and finishing time put into it.

the above is what i generally expect to see with apprentice blades, something that is clearly marked stylistically that says that the knife wasnt brought to a complete conclusion fit and finish wise

the other 2 things that just dont feel right in that picture as far as them being from busse, the handle slabs and the thickness.

i dont know why, maybe its the beveling or the angles that are used in the ricasso slab junction, but its not what i would expect

the other thing being thickness - 1/8" thick busse's are pretty darn rare (wich is what that looks to be), most of the production lines being done in 3/16-1/4" thickness's.

this isnt something i've looked into (at all :) ) but it would be interesting to hear from collectors about the ricasso blade grind sweep. were all of the older mean streets/badgers made with the sweeping upper edge? were there any with a striaght flat grind from choil to spine?

one last comment, most of the apprentice blades were done that i've seen on the forums were from production models, used as practice runs before grinding production blades. the model shown here doesnt seem to fit into any of the previous models. the mean street had a flat pinky area on the underside of the handle rather then the curved one shown, and the badger attack had more belly and less straight edge to the blade portion, i also seem to recall the blade being a little shorter then the overal handle length....

anyways.... i dont actually know much of anything about apprentice blades, so definitely good luck identifying it

I'll second that, but I'm not certain.
Overall it looks more Simonich than Busse, but part by part it looks more Busse than Simonich. The butt looks like it could either be a SHBA or a Raven, but the blade looks more RWClark/Simonich than Badger or Euro. The guard looks very Busse Apprentice, but it could also be old Simonich styling. The Kydex looks much more Simonich than Progunner. The pins look RWClark inspired, but it could be from the flat pin Busse era. The coating looks more like Busse smooth coat than anything I've ever seen on a Simonich.
Tomorrow I'll put up some pics of my apprentice and Simonich to help, or not help, as the case may be.
Adding the way the coating looks, especially right around the rear talon hole, to the SHBA scale look, to the guard geometry, I'm more convinced it's a Busse than Simonich, but there's a strong argument either way.

That would be a really really nice camp knife, whatever it is.
Congratulations!!!

I know this is the first place I usually ask questions like this, but how about asking this in the I.D. forum as well?
Good luck SuperHOGzilla'Ducci.

The sheath looks like an early Normark sheath, ask Eric maybe he remembers ?

Hope it helps.
