I got tired of the "rubber handle" so I tore it all apart. I wanted to go for a classic forged look....so I removed all the Cold Steel markings...blurred the grind lines..and silver soldered a big brass guard on it. I added a block of the tightest grain cocobolo I have ever used (like grinding marble) and this is how it came out. The picture is not all that great but I think that you can get the idea. The blade finish is similiar to current Randalls.
Pretty neat overall. My next project beyond my own blades is to take an Ontario Bagwell Gambler and redo it.

Simply incredible. Is this something you would be willing to do for others? If so, what would the price be (in labor, I presume the material cost would vary based on the material.)
Thanks,
Chad

Outstanding! Never though a Recon Scout could look like that. Excellent work.

...So uhmm, now what did you do about the sheath?

Damn...MY Recon Scout doesn't look THAT GOOD, but then mine is still "stock".

I'm curious, 'tho...Without the "protective" black coating on the blade, aren't you worried about "rust"?

Maybe you should collaborate with CS on a semi-custom line of variants. If you do, I want a commission for brokering the deal.

Damn........that sure is sweeeetttttt!!!

Now let's see a Trailmaster!!!

It looks like a custom! Well, I guess it kinda is. Very cool. When the handle cracked on my RS, I just put some ugly epoxy coated para cord on it.

Gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful!

Where did you learn how to do work like that? I've tried replacing handles before but they just fell apart on me

. That sure is a pretty knife now though, MUCH nicer than a stock RS. Nice work. Judging from the responses, I get the feeling you could make some money at your hobby if you're so inclined

First off...I want to thank everyone for their great replies!!

I have been making knives for about 11 years now. For the most part I grind my own blades and do my own sheath work. I recently moved and finally got my shop back up and going so this knife was my "warm up" to get going again.

I always liked the CS line of Carbon 5 blades but I feel that the fell short in the handle and the sheath.

This Recon Scout was revived from some serious abuse. I found it a show for about $20. I had re-handled a RS for an Army Ranger about 4 years ago, so I knew they werent too bad to rebuild.

The only real major change to the knife is that I thin out the edge a little when I rework it. CS leaves their geometry a little too thick an once you knock the factory edge off there is too much meat there to resharpen.

Again, thanks for all the great comments.
