Look at this kydex sheath

It's the first time I see this concept. So practical!

What's your opinion David Brown about this kind of sheath? Do you make some? Is it patented?

I do not make these, nor will I

It is not my style.

I have no idea if it is patented or not.

His idea, he can go with it.

Here is my opinion that you asked for;

Looks more dangerous than useful, with the backward pointing "hooks" it looks as though it would work like a barb & try to go further down your pants as you moved around. Also the little "poky" bits look uncomfortable.

I think SOG had that from a while now
on their kydex sheaths for the seal and seal pup...

"led him to invent the patent pending "GROOOOVE!". He spent months drafting and testing prototypes. This new innovation allows rope/line to be cut without unsheathing the knife."

Seems like a solution in search of a problem.

My sheaths are connected to my belt eliminating the need for a sheath 'hook' to catch it on. This is for OWB or IWB.

Am I missing something?

sog's is used as a line cutter not a retention method. obviously you couldn't retain anything with the edge exposed o_0

I've made one with the catch hook like that, but on a smaller blade for the pocket. Maybe a year ago. Thought it was silly then, and still do, but the customer got the idea from somewhere and wanted me to make it, so I did. So, yeah, it's been done, but don't know who originally did it.

Hoopster, that sure is a cool idea! Nice.

Thanks, two of them are in use so far, I hope to get some feedback from them eventually. I'm pretty picky about the way things function and it seems like a practical solution to me.

I made these on request a while ago.

It floats loosely in the pocket, and when drawn the hook catches the pocket's corner like Emerson's wave, leaving the sheath in the pocket and the knife in the hand (without having cut your pants to shreds :))
Not my idea, but the guy wanted it like this and it works well when you're born without thumbs or just want another way to draw onehanded.

Martin, those pictures from your website are what led me to design the opposite for holding the sheath at the top of your pocket only after the knife is drawn to facilitate easier re-sheathing of the knife after use. So thanks for spurring my imagination. :)

Geez, just watched the youtube video again and this
time my audiocard was working.

My mistake about SOG having this already.
As LVC stated, the sog notch was for line cutting.
I was wrong,sorry....
These "hooks" and "notches" look useful,
I might cut a few in strategic places on some of my sheaths.
