Look at what my CS Ti-Lite did to my thumb! :(

I just got two Ti-Lites yesterday, a 4 inch and 6 inch Zytel model, and I'm so happy! The 6 inch is amazingly big. Bigger than I could have ever imagined. I love everything about it, except one thing: the thumb stud. It has ripped apart my thumb and I have a nasty blister on my thumb now. Why doesn't the Ti-Lite have a flipper? It wouldn't be hard...I mean, it already has a quillon on each side, but the pivot is in a place so that when closed, the thumb stud that could be the flipper is hidden inside the handle. Is there any reason why it doesn't have a flipper? That would make opening it much easier.

On a side note, opening the 6 inch Ti-Lite is actually easier for me than the smaller one.

I suppose they could redesign it....or you could just grow a callus on your thumb;-)

...what?

I'm rather confused as to what Ti Lite you're talking about, because mine has a flipper...

Edit: In case this isn't commonly known, flipping the Ti Lite is easy. Just push the quillon that protrudes from the back of the handle while you lightly flick the knife.

Yeah I'm trying to form a callus there. I also just took up golf though so I have golf calluses on that hand too haha

Good luck with that.
Golf and knives didn't mix well for me. After 18 holes I was ready to cut my wrists.

Interesting, never had problems with my ti-lite's thumbstud tearing up my thumb. The only knife that obliterated the skin on my thumb was a kershaw storm.

But like others have said, there are several ways of opening it besides the thumbstud. Wave opening out of the pocket being the easiest and the slightly protruding quillion and flick with the wrist.

One of the reviews said that a guy ripped his arm open trying to use the wave on his arm and he had to get two stitches. Those quillons are sharp and I don't want to rip my pockets.
And the weird thing is, the quillon on the 4 inch protrudes slightly, so maybe with a huge amount of wrist flick, one could open it like that. On the 6 inch though, the quillon doesn't protrude at all.

I'd suggest cutting back on the scented hand lotions and exfoliating scrubs.

Sounds like a case of too much time spent on the west coast ;)

I ground off the wave quillions on mine because i hated hot it ripped up my pants.

The thumb stud is fine for me.

First thing I did was remove the thumb stud, just didn't care for it. and it opens so much better just catch-it on my pocket and whaa laa

Maybe the pivot is too tight?
If not, just keep opening and closing it. It will likely become more smooth over time.
If that's not the case either....
Your thumbs will be tough before you know it.

When I try to wave it, the thumb stud catches on my pocket and then it won't wave. It's too much of a hassle to position it correctly to use the wave feature.

And it's not that hard to open, it just seems like the detents on both are kind of strong. With the 4 inch, the force to overcome the detent usually fires it open hard. The 6 inch makes it, but it's much slower and isn't as cool of a sound.

I've had two of the 6" ti lites. As far as the detent/bar goes it's very easy to take it apart and adjust to your liking. A 10min. job tops.
