Hey guys, ive been wanting to get into knife making for a while now but dont have the tools or the budget to really get started, so i decided id try and work with what i have which is a few files, a hacksaw, a vise and bunch of sandpaper, for the metal i used a prybar, the result is this kiridashi, i wanted something i could keep in my pocket all day that was really smooth, be used to cut when needed but really just something to carry in my hand and to rub if that makes any sense, a pocket nick-nack!

Anyways thats it, my first attempt at knife making, my hands are cut up and sore so when they heal up i'll start on something else, i have about 8 inches if the prybar left to work with.

Let me know what ya think, cheers!

That is very cool! I love kiri's. I made one not too long ago but I'm waiting for it to get back from HT. I love the polish you put on yours, It really makes the knife classy.

Nothing like the first blister you get from a file handle, huh?

And excellent work. As mentioned, nice polish, and the fuller you put on is an interesting visual touch.

Really cool. Especially after considering that you used what you had on hand.

That looks really awesome!
I've never even thought about making a knife ever, and I'm considering this.....
You should be proud.
:):D

they are used like a utility knife, to open boxes, scrape paint etc, you can make them out of a piece of scrap, basically just sharpen a piece of metal and use it as a tool, i really like them, there are so many unique ones out there i had to give it a try myself... i'm going to make a little kydex sheath for it so i can hang it around my neck or put it on some keys.

thanks for the comments guys!, i'm starting my second project today, a small 6 inch neck knife!

I like it, I'm a big fan of Kiridashis and while I like them to have scales, even liners etc. I like the "simplicity" of this one and though it's "traditional' to have a single grind on a Kiridashi I like the double grind like this too. Looks good.

i decided to drill it out and add a lanyard today for better grip, seems to be pretty good!
