Yes this really happened. I was Backpacking last week, when i turned in for the night i left my gear outside my tent with my knife strapped to the outside of my pack. At day light i woke up to this scratching noise, went outside and seen this little bastard just sitting on top of my pack. I stepped out and he ran off to his home. I diddnt think anything of it until i started packing up. He chewed a hole in my pack big enough for him to sneak in. The little terd ate half of my pb & j sandwich, and tore into my crackers. Thats not the worst of it, i did a check over everything to see what else he had done, the fart snacked on my knife handle. Why? Maby the salt from my hands made it tasty?
My wife and I had to laugh at this. We had the same thing happen to us on the ALCAN back a lot of years ago. It wasn't to a knife, but the bugger did eat a hole in my duffle bag I had strung up in a tree with our food in it. Great pics, and thanks for the memory jog!!!
I work on cars and see that all the time from rats and mice, (squirrels are pretty much tree rats with a bushy tail IMO) I dont know why but they love to chew the insulation around wires. The material on the handle of your knife has sort of the same consistency as wire insulation, sorry that happened to you. Pretty dang funny though.
Sorry about your handle... and pack and sandwhich, etc...
I hate those little tree monkeys too... they REALLY like cable TV cable... along w/electical wiring and anything else one might have in their attic/home.... ask me how i know.
This is what me and my Lab Duke like to do w/squirrels....
I dunno 'bout that... Looks like intentional damage. Not by boomhower, of course, but... Damn rodent!
Sorry, to hear, boomhower! I'm guessing that the squirrel is probably not feeling all that hot right about now, LOL! Hope the Yard can fix her up for ya.
