A thread for those who will admit to buying the "oops, why did I bid on that" heads or whatever.

I'll be happy to show my humility first:

This goes in the "Ugh...why did I bid on this" or "what was I thinking" category.

I was looking for a tomahawk-type to build up for my nephew who's graduating from Ranger School. Saw this on fleabay and ordered it, but it's a little smaller than what I was imagining, and the hole is round - I'm used to tear-drop holes. I think I spent a little too much on this :grumpy:

It depends on what you paid for it. I'm no expert, but maybe that is some $200 trade axe. Maybe it's worth $20. At least it's not cracked! I have a couple of those bust purchases, but nothing that I ever paid more than $1-3 for. One was so pitted that it was useless, the other had a good shape until I cleaned it off and saw "Ludell Made in China". I'll save up heads like this and once in a while sell them as a lot of "misfit axe heads". They usually go for $30-40 for whatever will fit in a flat rate box.
 
Looks like a sweet little trade axe, is it 200 years old? Who knows, but it looks like a good project if you ask me!
 
Sorry for my negative attitude! It just wasn't what I was expecting ... My fault since I stared at the pictures prior to bidding. I'm going to set it aside and redo some of the other heads I have, then think about what I want to do with it. Maybe I should look more into it and see if there's va story in there!

it would'nt be hard to refurbish that one, a few hammer strikes to drive the eye into a more oval shape, and then vinegar bath,and so on!
