It's the surface grinder I was asking about awhile back. He let me have it for $400, and for another $150, threw in a 3 HP phase converter, which needs some work:

He also has 3 mills for sale. Here's the one I want, but can't afford:

And here's one that probably wouldn't even fit though my big door.

I know one should not be jealous but I am. Great score.

I think the paint is too scuffed up and dull looking, you should really donate it to one of us one here so as to not make your shop look bad! :D

Looks like a great score to me for sure! What's it going to take to get the PC going?

Congratulations, Philip. Did you fire it up yet? That's a great thing to have, one day I'll find one too.

That mill you want looks beautiful- perhaps if you obsess over it enough, you can come up with some way of talking him out of it. He's not into knives, is he?

Is that a homemade rotary phase converter?

And, wow that big mill is crazy. You've have to take out a section of wall, at least I would.

Good score. It's nice to have the space and means to put something like that to use. I did notice though, that you took a lot more pictures of the mill.

Nice. I have been watching Craigslist round here for a good deal on one also. One of the Bridgeports would be a nice addition also.

Well, Dan, with our economy the way it is, good deals like this are not that hard to find anymore....

My shop already looks bad, but thanks for caring. :D

The seller fired it up the first time I went to look at it, and I just fired it up here after my dad got the phase converter running.

The price for the mill is very reasonable, I just don't have room. Well, I have room, I just don't want to give it up...

Yes, the phase converter is homemade. Very simple and effective. I'm tickled pink. No longer am I bound by single phased-ness. :D

I'll post more pics of the SG, but yes, I am lusting for that mill. ;)

Congrats, man!!!

Thanks, Don! Now I can grind my own dies too. ;)

We're talking about mounting the phase converter inside the cabinet of the surface grinder so it'll be a self contained unit. Is there a good reason not to do this? Seems like it might be exposed to lots of oil and/or grit, and that can't be good, but then the idler motor is TEFC, so it may not matter. Any advice?

Seems like an OK idea to me, will you be able to plug other machines into it as well after that? Alternately, what about mounting it on a rolling cart so that it could be moved easily to any machine that needed it?
Also, will oil or grit get into the electric boxes and possibly cause a short in time?

We will have an extra outlet for other tools. For now I'm leaving it on a cart, just because I don't feel like installing in the cabinet. :D

In other news, I ordered a 5 gallon bucket of the appropriate lube. Should get here this week, and at that point I'll be able to use it.

Wow! The only thing that ever follows me home is the police or the neighbors dog! Neither are as cool as that!

Very nice. I suppose I should spend more time looking for cheap heavy equipment... except that if one followed me home my wife would make me sell my little MR2 to make room for it in the garage. Not going to happen.

I just wish that small mill had followed me home too. :(

Here's some more pics. I took the table off, and cleaned up the ways, although I don't think they looked too bad.
