Look what I did to my Becker Crewman!

Nice! How hard was it to shape the handles? I have thought about making some for my BK7 but was worried about them not being both even.

It was very difficult. I re-ground the entire tang, removing about 3/4" of the length. I also had to precisely countersink the holes for the 1/4" female Corby type nuts on one side and 8X32" screws on the other. It would have been easier to permanently attach the scales, but I wanted them to be removable and I'm very pleased with the results.

I use a drum sander in my drill press. Notice I ground off the serrated thumb ramp too. Alot easier on the thumb now.

Well, I'm a knifemaker so I have all kinds of tricks, but for projects like this I use a variety of sanding drums chucked into my drill press. Sizes range from 1/2" to 1 1/4" which are used to rough out the shape I want, the rest is all done by hand with sandpaper. Sandpaper wrapped around a wooden dowel for the contours and sandpaper wrapped around an aluminum block for the flats.

I think you have a real talent there-it looks great! Very clean and classy looking, yet still keeping the tactical Becker look. Kind of "Saturday Night Tactical," you know? :D

I was going to polish the blade but it's full of inclusions and pock marks, so I just cleaned up the spine and the flats and sandblasted it. It's a good care free finish that looks good too. If I ever want to paint it or Parkerize it, I can just unscrew my handles, re-finish it and put them back on.

If you ever get tired of this knfe , please let me know. I had plans to do this to the same knife, only now I can't find one anywhere to trade ofr. Later, Steve

Very nice, I was thinking about the BK77 because I don't black blades. Kind of like to see the bare steel.
But now I just gonna buy a BK7 and get the paint removed by sandblasting with plastic pellets.
Doesn't Becker even sell the Micara handles of the BK77 separately ?
