I found the hatchet that's pictured with the handle, where I deer hunt in the woods. It has FULTON stamped on it and that's it. It's rusted some on the other side. It weighs 1lb 6 oz. handle and all, on my fish scales.

The other one is blue and has 89-US stamped on the side of the hammer part. I'm not sure where it came from, but it has been in my storage building long enough for me to forget about and rediscover recently. It weighs 1 1/2 lbs.

I tried searching for info online about the fulton with no luck. I want to put a handle in the blue one and use it. What do you think, are these big enough to really be useful? Any other info about these? Thanks

Nice find KY!

I've got a similar hatched head in the garage I'm working on. I'm cutting the nail puller area away to give it a Hudson Bay axe look onthe blade end. Not sure if I'm going to remove the hammer end yet.

They make fun projects and are very functional tools.

Hiking with my daughter several years ago I said I wanted to check out an old campsite we spotted from the trail. I was telling her how my brother once checked out an old campsite and found an axe stuck in a tree. I walked up and there stuck in a log was an old hatchet. She was impressed.

It cleaned up and re-handled nice. Mac

Those of course are specifically carpenter's hatchets. It's very handy to do some rough framing work or installing cedar shingles. The cutting edge is straight , not curved and the other end is for nailing and a nail removing notch.
