Ok it's technically a slip and a lock back but it is still worth sharing. It's a Weidmannsheil trick lock. The pen blade is a slip-joint and when pressed it releases the lock on the large blade. This is the first Weidmannsheil I have handled and it is great!

Congrats on the new knife! I also bought a small Weidmansheil stag lockback recently and was really pleased with the fit, finish, and the stag scales for the price point. I am not sure how well the blade steel will hold an edge, but I was able to get it extremely sharp.

Those are made in the Olbertz factory in Solingen, and I believe the steel is 1095 carbon. I have the 4" lockback spearpoint in stag too. Quite a value for the money as you guys point out. I think I paid $40 for it on ebay, mint in box.

I'm not sure if the steel is 1095 but it is carbon steel and they are each hand forged. The company went out of business in 1991 due to the fact, they would not produce lower quality knives or raise their prices. Talk about cutting your own throat!

Are you guys sure that the blade is carbon steel? Allthough this was nothing but a guess, I had the feeling mine was stainless. I have used and carried it alot in the 3 months I have had it and have not experienced any staining or even a patina yet.

I think the new ones that are produced by another company are stainless, but the original ones were hand forged carbon steel. Some had chrome plating on them though. The ones you can buy on E-bay for $50.00 are imitations. They went out of business in 91 and have been produced under the same name by at least one other company.

I've got a newer one that I'm sure was made by Parker that I bought off of the Bulldog website for less than $50. The main blade is definitely carbon and has taken a beautiful patina, but the smaller wharncliff is stainless. It gets a lot of time in my EDC rotation, and is one of my newer favorites.
