After over a year and a half the waiting is over. The package just arrived at my door and now I'm fondling my new folder.

Check it out:

This beauty was done be Andrew Gleason who had a lot of personal issues come up while he had my knife. After a loooooong wait, it is now in my possession and I think it was well worth the wait.

You see two different knives because he made two different handle materials that can be interchanged. I only asked for the one carbon fiber handle and filework done to the liner and clip. But I think he made the sculpted and polished G10 handle to make up for the long wait. He even jeweled the liners which I didn't ask for.

There is a peice of micarta inbetween the liners to cover up the blade when it is in the closed position and with the sculpted g10 handles are THICK like the '98s! I'm really starting to like the sculpted G10 better than the Carbon Fiber handles that I asked for. I'm really glad he made this set.

I'll try and get more pics and get into more detail but for now I'm gonna go play with my new toy

Ross:

That's a fine looking knife! Is it a 98 model? Also, did he do some filework to the clip, or is that a reflection?

Congratulations on your "moderator" status. This means @Dawl and @Athena are all mine!!!!

Dang, I wish I had something to customize! Only thing I can find in the safe are all customs! - and this dang old 98!

Argh! Don't DO this to me! I still have to wait another three weeks before I can even start hoping that my production 2000(?) Commander will arrive in my mailbox.

What a beautiful knife! Gleason did a great job. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that those aren't users, but showcase pieces. They certainly look nice enough. Congrats!

Hey Sniper

Yup it is a '98 and there is some sweet filework done to the polished clip.

Ahhhh and about Atfena I hear her saying "Naaaaaa" (in a llama accent) to that deal and Dawl.... You might have some s'plainin to do to Eric B. 'bout that one

Kampfjaeger, I did send him the knife and only ordered the CF handles with full intention of carrying them.......Now I'm having second thoughts. I hate it when that happens, and it happens soooo many times. You buy a knife with full intention of carrying it with you but when you finally recieve it, it just takes your breath away and...... OH I don't know! Time will tell.

and Muchos Gracias John for the compliment.

Lovely folders Ross!

What did the work cost? Do you have his contact details?

Looks like the search for another '98 continues....

Yah, Ross - post his addy! I want G10 JUST LIKE THAT on my 2000 Commander.... it ain't a '98, but that doesn't mean it doesn't need love, too.

And, CARRY the damn thing, ya dope.

I agree, to not carry such a fine knife would be a crime.

carry the G10 day-to-day...

the CF for special occasions.

HC Leo and See2 and anyone else who is interested in contacting Andrew Gleason, I talked to him this weekend and asked him if he wanted me to give out his new contact info so that others could inquire about having him doing more jobs like the one he did for my Commander.

He says he just wants to stick to it for a hobby. At this time anyways. He felt super guilty about how long it took him for some of the people who sent him knives and he doesn't want to have it happen again. He said "when" and "if" he does it again he may just supply the base knife so that the customer isn't out the knife while waiting for the custom work to be done.

He also has a new position at work and moving to a different state and all has taken it's toll on his passion for knives. He used to post on BF a ton, but like I said his priorities require most of his attentions elsewhere at this time. Hopefully we'll see him come out of retirement soon but for now we can just hope.

And HEY we still have BANDITYO who still hasn't replied to my email

I'm starting to think he might not want me to send him some of my knives for him to put his magic touch on them. BANDITYO ARE YOU OUT THERE????

darn it all. I was beggining to want to have some custom work done . I liked that so much I was gonna break a few of the ten commandments. Oh well it will have to wait

I used to be disgusted .Now I am just amused....I feel much better now that I have given up all hope

Thanks for trying Ross,

Thats exactly what I would have done,'clarify with the guy first'....class act Ross

Man, I love Gleason's work. I have had 3 knives that he customized and all 3 opened easier and slicker than from the factory. He does a great job, just wish he would do more knives than he does. I still have a Carnivour that he put some of the nicest carbon fiber on and filework. Slickest opening Rekat ever! Maybe one day I'll pick up another knife that he has worked on
