F888ing savage! Did you forge that? Great job!

F888ing savage! Did you forge that? Great job!

Forged in a campfire, using a steel pipe with holes drilled sideways at the end and a hair dryer as a bellows. Used a 6 pound ball-peen hammer and an old, huge anvil in a barn. Had about 6 inches deep of coals.
My friend took a detailed series of pictures of the entire operation, from bar of steel, to making fire, to forging, everything.

Too bad he didn't have a memory card in the digital camera.

The finish is gun blue, with slight additional patina from slicing vegetables and fruit, for which it works surprisingly well.:)

What's the handle made out of it? Looks very interesting, like some kind of epoxy with cord wrapped around it.

Epoxy soaked jute, sanded down, with green paint accents and three coats of polyurethane.

Nice man thats pretty sweet. Thats something I've always wanted to do, to bad you didn't get the pictures you took.

Congrats; nice piece. Good to see some genuine handmade blades still being made by regular fellows.
