I love how people ask you to sharpen their knives and then whip something like this out, just as casually as could be. I’ll probably do this knife this weekend, maybe. Yes, I’m going to completely change the knife. I can’t just pare down because of that heel style that's integrated.

So, we’re going to do something like this:

Must be one ugly cat. Your fix plan is for a very stabby tip and a gentle belly from bolster to tip, right? I think, turns it into a petty probably better because this blade is not tall to start with. Either that or turn it into a short slicer/carver/suji - nah.

freehand fun & pain. unless save some sweat by using a belt sander remove metal to the outline and thin the blade first.

Some of those super coarse stones are supposed to grind nearly as fast as a belt grinder without the heat. For a job like that, I can think of no better tool.

Actually it does make me want to buy a Nubatama Aratae 24 grit stone... GAH! Out of stock. Should be back in stock in a few weeks. I'm going to put this project aside and reprofile this one when I get my Aratae.

There is no way I'd be using a new 70 dollar stone on that knife, unless it was to thin it out after I'd used a benchgrinder to fix the profile. A big bucket of water, or maybe even a pan of oil, and a 10 dollar wheel.

My 60 grit Nubatama has a impressive metal removal rate, it often makes belt sanders jealous.
