well... the end of the semester is rolling around (almost graduated :o) and i'm lookin to treat myself to a hawk.

i've had my eye on the american tomahawk company line (vtac, cqc, and comanche) and i really like them all! (wish i could buy them all at once :))

im looking for, i guess what you could call, a jack of all trades hawk.

basically the primary role of the hawk will be use in the woods, however i would like the flexibility of it serving as a combat weapon should the need arise (wild animals or people).

i would like to keep it under 200 if possible :D and was lookin for some suggestions besides the ones i've listed.

thanks a bunch folks.

also considering picking up a cold steel tomahawk of sorts and modifying it like i've seen done here on the forums.

For Wood's work & a Combat Style Hawk I would go with the Fort Turner Roger's Ranger, for 100.00 It's a Goodun ! Do a Google search for Fort Turner and check em out, Good Luck In your search,

+1 on SnakeDoc's recommendation...

I recently bought a FT Roger's Ranger hawk, and it's a beauty. Thanks to the guys on the forum here, I know the fit and finish are good... I wasn't sure till they explained it to me. :) - such a newb, I know :D

Any of FT's hawks are good, but the Ranger was calling my name. Good luck with your choice!

If you like ATC's work, you should check out Bear Mountain's Rogers' Rangers line. They (ATC & Bear Mountain) use to be one in the same company until ATC decided to go strictly modern tactical stuff.

Also, I just bought one of Dana's (Fort Turner) Iroquois tomahawks and love it! While there's no backspike, I have no doubt it'd be an awesome weapon if I needed to use it as such.

FSCJdi,off topic.but im torn between FT. vicking/iroquirs or rr.,my VTAC hawk suites me fine for a spike hawk, but the bug has bitten me deeeeep, love the look of the Iroquirs but the vicking seems awsome two, what re your thoughts ona poll Iroquirs?JBEE

I think adding a poll to the Iroquois would throw off the look and heft, in my opinion. As is, she's light and fast.

There are many out there on the market- google search for sites then decide what you are looking for...i.e. wooden haft, synthetic, one piece, then features. Nearly all manufacturers can make them in different ways if you ask (with our without spikes for example). Just look for someone using good materials and reputation. You pay for experience and quality just like a knife.

have you used the ranger for bushwork? how well does it handle?

Sorry, I missed your question... busy with my last semester too - just four more weeks! BTW, Congratulations!... what's your major?

I haven't got around to using it yet, but... the yard is starting to look a bit overgrown and one of our trees fell down recently... might go hack at it for the fun of it. :D

I'll let you know if I get around to it.

doin a double major in history and english.

will be lookin forward to your review of hackin at some wood :P

will probably be nice after all that work during the semester :D

Gotta say get a Vector hawk. Abotu $200 and no better hawk for the money in my opinion.

Tim

You can buy one of each of the CS hawks. They are great. Especially if you want a platform to mod. I have the rifleman hawk. It is a bit heavy for packing in the woods. But for truck camping, shorter hikes it is ok. It throws awesome. And at about 30 bucks a pop, you could buy the whole line up for the same price as the more expensive hawks.

If you are looking for more cool factor there is a guy on here named Vec? I think. He sells custom hawks with hand picked CS hawk heads mated to his custom synthetic indestructible handles. Any length you want. They have quite a following here. Vector hawks, I just saw the person above me recommend them. Awesome looking.

I don't have one, but would love one.

that measuring tape is stretched to 25 feet. The mark with the knife is another 25 feet from the target. I am standing about 5 feet behind the end of the tape measure.
