Anyone have a cross slide plate and or a magnetic vise they'd like to sell or trade?? Brand doesn't matter and size is flexible, just need them in very good condition. Thanks!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Lmao, nope Cl, I gave that up! I'm going to build a surface grinder that uses belts. I think the number one thing that I hate the most about making knives is sanding the flats on my 6 by 48. It just takes so long and it so tedius and my arms aren't gettin any younger. If this thing works I'm sure I'll make alot more knives and might even be able to get some steel flat enough to make a folder or two. I'll post the plans and some pix if it works.

L6SEEL/Michael,

For folders I use precision ground bar stock. It takes the major headache/risk out of being sure your blade is truelly flat. For the number of knives/folders I am currently making buying precision ground steel is more economical than building/purchasing a surface grinder.

L6/Michael,
I've had good experience by bribing the local community college metal shop instructor with a small skinner, he then uses my blanks to instruct classes on surface grinding- and replaces any that get screwed up!
Cheers!
